On the non-medication side of things, we had a discussion about what we have in our "toolboxes" a few months ago, which you can find HERE.

OOps, My bad. Sorry for the double post. The beastie has been affecting my concentration, and I guess I missed it.

Can this one be deleted?

No need to apologize! It just goes to show, great minds think alike! Big Grin

I'll put a little twist on this if you don't mind, you asked what we carry in our purse (I call it pocketbook Wink) for our migraines:

I carry:

2 Zomig NS
2 Maxalt tablets
Naprelan and
Immodium AD

just in case I'm away from my house when a migraine hits.

I am SO glad to hear other people walk around with their medicines! I carry:
Imitrex tablets
Pepto Bismol
Vicodin
Migraten
Fiorinal
Maxalt (never mix with imitrex!)
Advil
Excedrin
Eeker

Of course - I NEVER take all that at once - or even every day - I think it's just comforting to know it's available. I also have a teenage son that inherited my migraines...so I carry his with me, too.

Good Luck

We don't really need to delete it. If we talk about it in two places, so much the better.

Actually, I have an article that I'm working on that will be right up your alley. It's about MAPP, putting together an Migraine action plan pack!

What do I carry in my purse? Are y'all ready for this? Eeker

In my handbag:
  • Dark, polarized prescription sunglasses
  • Axert tablets
  • Imitrex injections
  • Phenergan or Compazine tablets
  • A small leather case with two doses of injectable Nubain, 2 doses of injectable Reglan, alcohol wipes, and syringes. (I put these things in a small leather cosmetics case so that when I open my purse, nobody sees injectable meds. Yes, I'm paranoid that someone might try to grab my purse for them.
  • Advil Liqui-Gels
  • Fioricet with Codeine
  • A tiny glass vial of my own blended "smelling salts," - peppermint with a bit of chamomile and clary sage.
  • Copies of my complete list of meds and our ER forms.
  • An instant cold pack

I think that's it. Of course, that's in addition to what I need to have for other issues:
  • A glucometer.
  • Oral and injectable meds for diabetes.
  • Glucose tablets.
  • Nitroglycerine tablets

And people wonder why I carry a shoulder bag the size of an overnight bag! Big Wink

Oh this looks fun Smiler

Topamax
Imitrex Injector Kit
Barf Bags that the ER gave us (they look like giant condoms!)
Paper barf bags
Phenegran
A stuffed animal to hold for when I have to get my shot (yes I'm a baby!)
Peppermints for smelling (Ms Teri can I steal your smelly salts Idea? Any recommendations for mint smells? I have been looking! Does it really work?)
Bottled water (for the dehydration aftermath and pill swallowing)
Extra Imitrex vials
Chapstick (all that barfing really dehydrates you and my lips crack and bleed!)
Ear plugs
Sunglasses

We keep more things on hand but my husband usually rushes me home as soon as an attack strikes so things like comfy pillows and blankets are at home. But the above is usually kept in the car/bag in the car.

Thank you ladies for the ideas!

Aleve is always in my purse
I only toss in Imitrex if I fell like I might need it during the day

Other assistants include:
My snazzy aluminum water bottle
My polorized-dark sunglasses
A ball cap ito help with avoiding sun or even florescent lights indoors
My "blue oil" (an aromatherapy peppermint oil I use to massage on pressure points)

Other meds I just keep at home in a safe place, away from the kids:
Torodol injections
Oxycodone (rescue)

What I have in my purse itself:
  • Imitrex tablets
  • Frova tablets
  • Ibuprofen
  • Promethazine
  • Tums
  • Lip balm
  • 2 pairs of sunglasses - super dark "celebrity" ones and lighter ones for fluorescents
  • Regular prescription glasses
  • Eyedrops
  • Water bottle
  • Barf bag from an airplane, or a ziploc bag
  • Peppermint & ginger Altoids

What I keep extras of at work:
  • Tums
  • Lip balm
  • Hand lotion
  • Lil's Lavender Headache Relief stick (see HERE)
  • Contact solution & lens case
  • Peppermint & ginger Altoids

Other stuff I keep at home:
  • 2 ice packs - one with velcro
  • Earplugs
  • Eye masks
  • Many knitting and crochet projects
  • Large pile of books and magazines to read
  • Digital cable
  • Netflix subscription
  • Crochet "migraine" hat, that's loose but nice and warm
  • Many blankets and pillows, including a pillow made out of one of DBF's old t-shirts
  • Extras of all of my meds
  • Lavender sachet next to my bed
  • Additional Headache Relief stick
  • Altoids stashed in every room, including the bathroom
  • Lots and lots of loose leaf teas, tea pots and mugs, plus a travel mug with an infuser
  • Lip balm
  • All sorts of lotion, including unscented, lavender and ginger
  • Peppermint foot salts
  • All sorts of body wash, including unscented, lavender and ginger

I think that's it! I don't have a good treatment plan yet, so I have a lot of non-med interventions.

I don't have a purse, but I do have a bookbag and one of the things I try to keep in it is some of the Dramamine chewable tablets. Since you can chew them up, they work fast and are easy to take if you are really nauseous, and they are not as sedating as the regular Dramamine (or even phenergan). The blister packs are hard to open, though, so you might have to take them out of the pack at home (so you don't have to carry scissors around everywhere you go) and put them in a different container.

I don't keep a lot in my little backpack I carry every day, so my list is fairly short. I have...

  • Midrin
  • Soma
  • Lortab
  • Aspirin
  • Zipper freezer bags, a.k.a. insta-ice packs
  • and...down in the very bottom, I have a little box of ear plugs, which I haven't had to use in a long while

Oh, yeah, I always have sunglasses in there, too. But I'm not terribly light sensitive with migraines, so I don't use them for that.

For Christmas a couple of years ago, our manager gave us key chains with small coin-purse type things. In that keychain, I keep one Axert pill and OTC Prilosec at all times. In my purse, I have two more Axert and more OTC Prilosec, and my Fiorinal. Due to a history of gastric ulcers, my GI doctor wants me to take the Prilosec anytime I need to take Fiorinal, so I always carry both. But the beauty of the keychain is that I can leave my purse at home, carry my wallet in my jeans pocket, and still always have my Axert with me.

My sunglasses are usually in the car. On an unusually sunny day, I may wear them between the car and whatever indoor space I'm using.
