Hey guys! Sorry I've been absent a lot the last week... not only did my boss decide that he wanted to get our new software built and deployed this week, but it was also finals week (I had a take-home final and a paper due, ugh). To make matters worse, I got a beast of a migraine Wednesday night (final and paper were due on thursday, of course). I've been getting awful beastly migraines the day or so before my period starts lately, and this one was a doozy. I've always gotten nausea with migraines, but this time I actually had to vomit several times. Is this common for most of you? I hope it doesn't become a regular feature of my migraines :/

This isn't going to help you a whole lot, but, on the rare times I vomit with a migraine it is because I took meds on an empty tummy or hadn't eaten at all that day because my head hurt to bad to think of food.

However, the day or two after a migraine whether it is a bad one or not, my body expels everything in the other direction the point of me having to run to the potty just in the nick of time. TMI?

I am sure that someone with more experience will be along soon. In the mean time:

Feel better!!!!! Group Hug Heart

I don't usually vomit with my migraines, but I am almost always extremely nauseous. Often either during or after my migraines, I end up with the soupey poopies. (TMI I'm sure, but there it is.)

Group Hug Hope you're feeling better soon.

Ok MJ, I'm sitting here giggling like a fool over your description of diarrhea. I'm going to have to spring that one on my daughter, she likes wierd things like that.

As for e - I get nauseated but I've never thrown up.

If you notice migraines coming with your cycle, you can talk to your MD about Frova as a preventive for hormonal migraines.

Well for me i used to only get nausious witha migraine but suddenly they have been getting worse to where i do throw up because of the pain. It is something that alot of people experience, the thing my doctor told me is when i get a migrane and i feel sick i'm to take gravel then and hope that will stop the throwing up. It has worked on some occasions and others i just throw the pills up.

I get nauseated sometimes, but not often I almost never throw up. My stomach seems to be made of iron. (I also have a very strong resistance to GI viruses, and if I ever do get them, I am REALLY sick.) But a few times I've thrown up with migraines.

I think the nausea is a separate process from the pain, though. During my migraine this past Wednesday, my head hurt, but not that much. But the nausea was intense--although I did not actually throw up.

Deb, I can't take credit for that description, but I think it's one of the best. I do like droolie's preferred term, though - "dribbly butt". Anything to find humor with the beastie, right? Smiler

I almost never get nausea with migraines. I've maybe had it three times ever during a migraine along with the headache, and I've only ever thrown up once with a migraine. I did have a stretch where I had some auditory aura going on a couple of years ago, and I would get some nausea, cold sweats, tunnelling vision, and passing out with that, but the nausea was always short-lived. The longest it ever lasted was maybe twenty minutes. I never, ever threw up with that nausea. I'd feel very close to it, and then it would resolve.

Since this is a new development, make sure your doctor knows. It could just be that your pattern is changing.

I get nauseated and don't eat much if any during the throes of a migraine. I try to force myself to eat something to keep my bloodsugar from doing jumping jacks but thats it. I got violently ill only once and that was last weekend when I had the worst one in history. I was also running in the other direction too, the opposite end if you know what I mean. LOL I was going to post and ask if anyone else found this a common occurence but guess a few of your posts answered that question! I usually find myself running to the bathroom more often than when I don't have a migraine (then again when DON'T I have one lately? LOL) I guess I have to make fun of it, its the only way to live with the darned curse! I think everyone is different as to whether you hurl with them. (sorry for my lovely slang terms LOL) Good luck and be sure to tell your doctor about any new developments.

Thanks everyone! I've been keeping detailed logs for when i see the neuro next month, so i'll be sure to mention it.
nutcracker1: I'm the same way - I get horribly nauseous, but I practically never throw up.
DebHOST: thanks for the info about Frova! I had seen people mention it here on the site, but I haven't looked into it. Definitely something I'll ask the neuro next month!

Yep. Nausea is a regular thing for me and my migraines. Sometimes I throw up before the pain even starts! For me, injectable medicines are the only way to go...can't seem to keep anything down when migraine hits!!

Glad to see I'm not the only puke-o-phobe.

I can usually do pretty well at suppressing the barf reflex by controlling my breathing.
