On the non-medication side of things, we had a discussion about what we have in our "toolboxes" a few months ago, which you can find HERE.

I am SO glad to hear other people walk around with their medicines! I carry:
Imitrex tablets Pepto Bismol Vicodin Migraten Fiorinal Maxalt (never mix with imitrex!) Advil Excedrin Of course - I NEVER take all that at once - or even every day - I think it's just comforting to know it's available. I also have a teenage son that inherited my migraines...so I carry his with me, too. Helpless in Illinois |

We don't really need to delete it. If we talk about it in two places, so much the better.
Actually, I have an article that I'm working on that will be right up your alley. It's about MAPP, putting together an Migraine action plan pack!

What do I carry in my purse? Are y'all ready for this?
In my handbag:
I think that's it. Of course, that's in addition to what I need to have for other issues:
And people wonder why I carry a shoulder bag the size of an overnight bag! ![]() Teri Robert Lead Expert, MyMigraineConnection terimmc@helpforheadaches.com

Oh this looks fun
Topamax Imitrex Injector Kit Barf Bags that the ER gave us (they look like giant condoms!) Paper barf bags Phenegran A stuffed animal to hold for when I have to get my shot (yes I'm a baby!) Peppermints for smelling (Ms Teri can I steal your smelly salts Idea? Any recommendations for mint smells? I have been looking! Does it really work?) Bottled water (for the dehydration aftermath and pill swallowing) Extra Imitrex vials Chapstick (all that barfing really dehydrates you and my lips crack and bleed!) Ear plugs Sunglasses We keep more things on hand but my husband usually rushes me home as soon as an attack strikes so things like comfy pillows and blankets are at home. But the above is usually kept in the car/bag in the car. Thank you ladies for the ideas! |

Other stuff I keep at home:
I think that's it! I don't have a good treatment plan yet, so I have a lot of non-med interventions. -MJ my blog: http://rhymeswithmigraine.blogspot.com/ “HOPE CAN GROW FROM THE SOIL OF ILLNESS!” This is the theme of 2008’s National Invisible Chronic Illness Awareness Week in September. I don't have a purse, but I do have a bookbag and one of the things I try to keep in it is some of the Dramamine chewable tablets. Since you can chew them up, they work fast and are easy to take if you are really nauseous, and they are not as sedating as the regular Dramamine (or even phenergan). The blister packs are hard to open, though, so you might have to take them out of the pack at home (so you don't have to carry scissors around everywhere you go) and put them in a different container.

I don't keep a lot in my little backpack I carry every day, so my list is fairly short. I have...
Oh, yeah, I always have sunglasses in there, too. But I'm not terribly light sensitive with migraines, so I don't use them for that. Dragondrool Forum Moderator ~~8=:>>>> |

For Christmas a couple of years ago, our manager gave us key chains with small coin-purse type things. In that keychain, I keep one Axert pill and OTC Prilosec at all times. In my purse, I have two more Axert and more OTC Prilosec, and my Fiorinal. Due to a history of gastric ulcers, my GI doctor wants me to take the Prilosec anytime I need to take Fiorinal, so I always carry both. But the beauty of the keychain is that I can leave my purse at home, carry my wallet in my jeans pocket, and still always have my Axert with me.
My sunglasses are usually in the car. On an unusually sunny day, I may wear them between the car and whatever indoor space I'm using. |
