Fledgling |
I was wondering if anyone has had uterine ablation and if this may have helped with the hormonal migraines. My doctor seems skeptical but I wanted to know if anyone had it done and noticed an improvement. I'm 39 and my periods are a 2-3 weeks long, and the pill was awful.

I had one done. Even with the ablasion, you can still get a scant period. Everything remains intact, so hormones remain the same. The only thing it helped me with was I was no longer had anemia, and life with heavy bleeding was over. Headaches remained the same. I got put on lexapro for mood swings with my period. They told me this also helps with headaches.

I wouldn't do it just for Migraines. It might help, but it might make things worse too.

I had it done 3 years ago, I'm on medication for migrains and daily headaches. I'd be more concerned about your iron. But it will stop the 2-3 week periods. That's the same thing I had. If you get stress migrains, it might help. Since you're bleeding for that long, it begins to interfer with your life and other things. After the surgery, you really won't have a period. Maybe some spotting here and there. But NOTHING like what you had before. Good luck to you!!

Hi everyone,
I had an ablation done 2 years ago. It really hasn't affected my migraine pattern at all. Your hormone fluctuations are still there, so I'd think that any menstrual migraines you have will probably remain. It was a good decision for me...I had 2 week periods and random bleeding all the time. Now, no more periods at all! |

Hi,
My GYN has suggested an ablation, but his thoughts on Migraine control went something like this--since the ovaries {et al} will be left untouched, my hormones would still do their "thing". That is the short version of course. A ablation for period issues is one thing. Having one doen soley for Migraines, in my opinion wouldn't be worth it. |
