On my Meniere's board, we're discussing something else but this came up. I wondered what it was. Anyone heard of it? It's a new phrase to me:
Migraine Related Vestibulopathy (MRV) is: ”A disorder whose diagnosis is based on a history of migraine, reports of sensitivity to space and motion and vestibular symptoms that do not fit any other vestibular condition.” The quote was attributed to the following articles: Baloh RW. Neurotology of migraine. Headache. 1997;37:615-21 Cass SP, Furman, JM, Ankerstjerne JKP, et al. Migraine-related vestibulopathy. Ann Otol Rhinol Laryngol 1997;106: 182-9 Harker LA, Rassekh C. Migraine equivalent as a cause of episodic vertigo. Laryngoscope 1988;98:160-4 A poster wondered if it was the same thing as MAV. Learning something new every day... http://sparklingwithcrystals.blogspot.com/ basilar-artery migraine, MAV, BPPV, migraine with and without aura, cluster headaches, but no tension headaches! W00t! |

I found a neat site with some definitions. Interestingly, in the definitions section, I found migraine related vestibulopathy but not MAV.
'Migraine-related Vestibulopathy' Here's the page that would have had MAV on it. It has a couple of migraine-related entries but nothing about MAV. Medical Dictionary List For Letter 'M' - Page 8 I'm not familiar with this site. On the left, it has links to ICD9 codes and PUBMED searches. When I searched the ICD9 codes for migraine related vestibulopathy, this is what it gave me. Migraine Related Vestibulopathy When I searched for the ICD9 codes for MAV, it gave me this. Migraine Associated Vertigo HA HA HA! I'm so proud of myself! I learned how to search ICD9 codes online! Many, many moons ago, I worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield. This was back when Word Perfect was called ATMS (a gold star and a special anti-migraine sugar cookie for anyone else who remembers that far back! The codes are very slightly different with vestibulopathy appearing to concentrate on the vertigo aspect and the MAV appearing to concentrate on the migraine aspect. Am I analysing this the way everyone else is? Edit: for my buds, I'm posting this here and on my Meniere's board too. Edit again: Can y'all tell I'm having a clear day today? Thank you, everyone, for your prayers and good thoughts. Were it not for you and the providence of God, we would be lost. Tough days, these. I posted a short blog update on Daddy last night. http://sparklingwithcrystals.blogspot.com/ basilar-artery migraine, MAV, BPPV, migraine with and without aura, cluster headaches, but no tension headaches!
