Last night I went to bed with and woke up this morning with what I consider an unusual migraine for me because it was going on exclusively on the left side (the pain, that is). If and when I get a left-sided migraine it's generally severe, and this one has had me laid out until I needed to get up and get ready for work. I have since taken my meds and am hoping they kick in really soon otherwise work is not going to be fun or happening...The back pain has also been unusual, sometimes I have pain through my neck but my shoulders and face have been particularly painful and warm.

But, my questions are these, is it possible to have very sporadic hemiplegic migraines? Occasionally my face will get numb and tingle prior to a migraine, or a foot will go dead, maybe once a year if that. Today in the midst of the migraine in the shower my left hand went numb and then kind of dead, and my arm definitely feels strange to me at the moment...Numbness has remained and I can't feel the last two fingers on my left hand. There is some weakness.

If you have hemiplegic migraine, will the numbness occur before the onset of migraine or can it show up during an attack? I guess I am trying to differentiate between my normal migraines and what information I should take to my specialist on Thursday...Like is this just a normal migraine with different symptoms rather than hemiplegic possibly?

I've been assaulted by a lot of severe migraines this week and a struggle with Status, so I feel a little concerned about what's happening at this moment. I can hardly type too so forgive me if any of this sounds wrong!

Thanks everyone.

Leeloo,

I know you know the only one who can help you with this is your doctor. Please call him as soon as you can. Then let us know how you make out.

Take care.

Leeloo, I am really glad you have an appointment with the doctor on Thursday. That said, if you have any more unusual experiences this week, don't wait til Thursday. Call the doctor about them ASAP, OK? Treatment options are different if there's a possibility that you actually have hemiplegic migraines.

The term "sporadic" with hemiplegic migraines refers to hemiplegic migraines in people who have a family history of migraines, but not hemiplegic ones. I think, but I'm not sure, that hemiplegic migraines can occur at any frequency, just as other types of migraine can.

Here's our article about hemiplegic migraines:

Hemiplegic Migraine - The Basics

I'm glad your doctor will soon have the chance to work through these changes in your migraine pattern with you. Take care, and keep us posted.

Hi gals,

Yes, I did call my Dr...he is prescribing me some medrol to get me out of this cycle.

He said if I was having same side numbness with pain it sounded like it was all migaine related.

If things get worse or don't break for me I will call tomorrow to come in earlier because he wants to see me.

My husband is going to bring me the Rx when it is filled, I just hope I can get through the night without it coming back. My face is tingling off and on now too, and my back hurts something fierce even though the Axert and excedrin seem to have taken teh edhe off of everything else.

I still feel loopy and not quite here, though. Hope it ends soon.

thansk.
