Hi. Does anyone know of any articles about migraines in teenagers and other conditions that may trigger migraines or for which migraines is a symptom? My niece has developed horrible migraines after another condition (swollen optic nerves) but no underlying cause has been discovered.
Thanks! -hligh |

Hello, hligh, welcome to the forum. We're glad you found us.
I'm afraid I don't know much about optic nerve swelling triggering migraines, but I'll link you to a few articles that may be helpful to your family. You may also find some helpful posts in the "Children and Migraines" folder. Parents of several teenagers post in that folder regularly. Learning About Migraines and Headaches - Where To Start Back To School With Migraines or Headaches Adolescent Migraine Feel free, of course, to direct your niece's parents to this forum. If your niece is at least 13 years old, and her parents are in agreement, she can sign on herself with her own account. Someday she will need to manage her own healthcare, and this forum is a safe place for her to begin to do that. Let us know what other questions you may have. |

Hi
Swollen optic nerves, or papilledema, chronic headache not relieved by medication, and other symptoms may be a condition called Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension, IIH, (formerly called PTC). It usually strikes women during their child bearing years, but IIH can happen in young adults and even children. This article Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (PTC) - The Basics may help explains things for you. If you have more questions, please feel free to ask away. |
