Does anyone have frequent night sweats?

I mentioned it to my HA specialist last week and he responded that it could be related to my migraines and TTH.

There is a lot of unavoidable stress in my life now and I have vivid high-anxiety dreams. This is every night, not just occasionally. I always wake up cold and wet from head to toe.

Hi Liz - How old are you, if you don't m ind my asking? could you be peri-menopausal? I started getting night sweats in my late 30's which is when hormone levels can start to change in many women. They got much more frequent last year as I headed closer to menopause.

Hi Liz,

I've had night sweats in the past that were related to my migraine meds. Do you take any meds that have this as potential side effects?

I have a lot of night sweats and I have ever since I began my period at age 12. I always wondered why commercials for hot flashes were aimed at older women when I've always suffered from them myself! Every night this week since Saturday I've woken up sweating and terribly warm. I am not yet 30.

I keep making plans to go have my thyroid checked but haven't made it out that way yet...I need to go this week. I think night sweats are a symptom of hypothyroidism too? Someone around here will know better than I do, I am sure.

Good luck.

I don't suffer from night sweats, yet, I'm 38 so I guess my time may be coming Eeker

As far as night sweats being related to your migraines or TTH - that would be a great question for Ask The Clinician for his input too.

Good Morning All..

I am 34, had a partial hysterectomy at age 30 and I suffer from night sweats pretty frequent sometimes followed with nausea.

My doc has said it's a side effect from my medications. I take Topamax as a preventative.

I do get my hormone levels checked, so far so good Thumbs Up

Thanks for all the comments. I'm 37 and I've wondered if it was a menapause thing, although I have no other symptoms in that area. My doctor seems to think it's not related to menapause.

I noticed it began when I went off Topamax, but that doesn't mean that it's related. I didn't begin a new medication during that time on which I can blame it. I actually took a bit of a medication holiday.

I was just wondering if others had ideas of how it could be connected or had a similar experience. It is a question I have for my next appointment. In the meantime, my doctor has increased my Lexapro and added Trazodone.

Hhummmm- interesting

As a side note, Lori, I had to smile at the photo you have. Thanks.

It could always be a medication side effect too. One of my coworkers takes Zoloft and she's only in her early 20's. She has awful night sweats and sure enough, the zoloft has that listed as a side effect.
We just googled zoloft and night sweats or medications and night sweats or something like that to get the answer.

LOL! The funny thing is that it is freezing at work (for most of us anyways-a few of those folks love that frigid air!) so she wears her winter coat at work then sweats all night. She is just miserable - poor kid.

So maybe try seeing if your meds have night sweats listed as a side effect. She and her doc decided not to change hers since she was doing well (mental health wise) but I don't know how long that will last.

Since Lexapro was the only preventive medication I was taking at the time I had only researched the Lexapro website. Increased sweating was noted as a side effect. However since I was only having night sweats and I had been on the Lexapro for months before this began, I didn't think it was the Lexapro.

I only began the Trazodone a few days ago, and this has been happening for a couple of months. So I took searched night sweats and Lexapro and found a few connections between night sweats and Lexapro.

For example, Here is a site that notes antidepressent medications are frequent causes of night sweats. Roll Eyes

I suppose I need to decide how much it's helping me and weigh it against waking up in a cold wet bed. It's a frustrating situation.

Now I'm even doubting my new HA specialist. I asked him about night sweats and migraines. He responded there could be a connection, but didn't elaborate. It's my fault for not pushing the question further, but I also had my two girls (ages 2 & 4) in the room with me so it was difficult. (This is the only time I've had to bring them, due to family circumstances.)

I'd better stop whining. I just thought I'd check in and let you all know what I found.
