Thanks Tawsha!
I feel pretty awful tonight, but the good kind of awful after the migraine is gone and postdrome is here Wink
Looking forward to hopefully feeling better tomorrow... I'm just glad it's over. I didn't even realize at the time how little I ate and how food tasted this week - it was amazing to be hungry again and for food to actually taste like something again!
Thanks again to everyone who helped me out and answered all my questions this week. I don't know what I'd do without you all! Group Hug

Thank goodness it's finally gone, e. Now that you have your appetite back, it's really time for some cake: Birthday Cake
Sorry we were premature in bringing it before, but now we can really celebrate.

There is an article I'd like you to take a look at and think about, in case anything like this ever happens again:
IV Treatment of Refractory Migraines

But here's hoping it doesn't happen again, at least not for a very long time. Fingers Crossed

Take care. You must be exhausted.

Thanks Nutcracker! I actually printed that article out with me and took it to the ER with me along with some other info. I think I'll print it and some other stuff and take it to my doctor's appointment next monday to go over options with her. Hopefully she'll be more receptive/helpful in the office appointment and we can come up with a plan for the next time this happens. I don't ever want to go through that again - I'm definitely taking earlier action next time.

e,

I'm so happy to hear you're doing better now! Group Hug

I see Nut gave you the article on Refractory Migraines; I was treated in the ER with IV magnesium and saline last night and it worked for me. Thumbs Up

Please let us know how your appointment goes, k?

I guess I'll post my update here... I saw the neuro again today. I wanted to discuss the way that my 11-day migraine saga played out and come up with a plan of action for the next time (hopefully there won't be a next time!)

I think I must have caught her off-guard on a bad day the day I went to the ER, because she was shocked to find out that the on-call neuro had put me on 10 days of dexamethasone - she said that she would normally only give 2-3 days and see if it worked, because the side effects are so severe (which i wholeheartedly agree with - I'm still dealing with the horrible acne breakout!)

We talked about options for the next time... I chickened out on bringing up the IV therapy like I had planned, but I am still happy with the appointment.

I told her that this last bad migraine was right before my period, and although I don't get those every month, when I do they're real doozies that don't respond to imitrex. I asked about Frova, and she gave me a few sample packs to try out on the next one. She also gave me an NSAID (cataflam) and a rescue med (fioricet) to keep on hand.

We talked about my current preventive meds also - I told her that i was migraine-free for almost 3 weeks on the combination of 80 mg inderal / 900 mg neurontin, and that the migraines came back when i tried to taper off the inderal. I told her that I stopped tapering off and went back to the 60 mg until I could talk to her about it. I asked her about going back to 80 mg, but my pulse is so low that she wants me to keep it at 60 and try adding another neurontin, maybe in the morning.

So, all in all, a very productive appointment. I feel like I have more options now to try on my own before having to reach out to her or the urgent care/ER. Hopefully I won't have to worry about status again, but I feel like i'm more prepared if it happens again Smiler

Thanks again for listening to my pathetic desparation lately. I'm so glad I have all of you to whine at! j/k Wink

e you can whine at us any time girl! Wink Although I don't think you were whining - you were scared and didn't know what to do!

May I add again how proud we all are of you for going to the ER! We know what a big step that was for you!

Also - Thumbs Up on the great doctor visit. I hope you come to love Frova as much as I do! It is my lifesaver!!!!

Another thing you may want to do before doctor appointments is write everything down, or type it out on your computer, then make a copy for yourself and your doctor. That way the two of you can go over it together and you won't forget or chicken out! Wink

Sometimes I have so many questions, the writing it down thing is the only way to go and make it organized and have me stay focused. I know that the doctors time is important too, and if I'm scatter brained, it makes them run longer because I can't get it together, so I just have it all written down, works like a charm!

So happy to hear you have a better picture of what to do if this situation comes up again too - I'm sure that puts you at ease!

Overall it sounds like your appointment went great, I'm so happy for you. So there won't be any "chicken out" allowed next time, print out our information on IV therapy and bring it with you. You could just hand it to her and see what she thinks!

I'm so glad she was open and responsive to your questions and concerns, and even better that you have a plan.

We are here for you in any way we can.
