Migraine

Please tell me about the steroid pack to break status migrain. Have had for 3+ weeks very ill. Need info to be able to call my doctor with to see if I can take with other meds AND see if he can call it in to pharmacy for me. Note I alredy have tried dhe45, frova, vicodin promethazine, hydroxypam suppositories, nd I take high dose inderal as preventative. and butturbur. My husband has buisness dinner tomorrow I have to go Please help me. Thanks
Please describe in detaile as my dr is not familiar with drugs for migraine and will have to look it up. I am home alone and too sick to drive I have dh pick up from pharmacy for me later today. My dr is not in today so i have to call, please hurry

I've used it once-it's Prednisone and it's not a pack. You have to take it over the course of a few days, but it did get rid of my migraine. It took until the 2nd day, but at least it was relief!

It ususally IS a pack, the Medrol dose pack. It's blister packed with the tabelts marked for day 1, day 2, etc. You take the most tablets on day 1, and take fewer and fewer each day.

Bev, there are several different steroids used to try to break status migrainous, the most common being prednisone or medrol. Usually it's a course of steroids starting at a high dosage and gradually decreasing over a period of 5-10 days. The specific dosing, as well as which drug and how long you would take it for, is an individual thing, so these specifics would be up to your doc.

Lynn, prednisone and medrol are both packaged as packs, as well as individual pills.
