I have not tried this forum before to gain information and I look forward to hearing from others who may have the same problems.

I have been experiencing what I was informed as Optical Migraine without headaches. When my vision is affected it is like looking through fractured lead glass with open fingers in front of that. I can see but I cannot see at the same time. When I close my eyes it is like a monitor screen with some sort of image in the upper right quadrant that is a bright white, blue, and red.

After that I have difficulty in articulating my thought to anyone for about 40 minutes. The first time it was scary and now I worry that it will come back for a longer time.

I teach reading and run a Help/Testing center at a local community college and being able to function is necessary.

Hi there, Scott!

There are some articles that I think will be helpful to you:
  • Anatomy of a Migraine
When many people think “Migraine,” they think only of the pain of Migraine. In reality, a Migraine (often called a "Migraine attack") consists of far more.
  • Acephalgic or Silent Migraine – The Basics
The term "Acephalgic Migraine" or "silent Migraine" refers to any type of Migraine where no headache is present, but the migraineur still has the other symptoms.
  • Migraine Without Aura - the Basics
Migraine without aura, formerly called "common migraine," is a neurological disease often characterized by headaches that occur on one side in the head and are pulsating or throbbing.
  • Ocular, Optical, and Ophthalmic Migraines
Although many individuals are diagnosed with optical, ocular, and opthalmic Migraine, these are not standard diagnoses according to the International Headache Society. Find out what these types of Migraine are more commonly called.

I sometimes have acephalgic Migraine with aura -- Migraine with aura without the headache phase. I have visual aura symptoms, nausea, and light sensitivity in most of these instances.

Hope the info is helpful!

The generally long periods of time between my Migraines are the result of working with a Migraine specialist to refine my preventive regimen. You can see my current regimen HERE.

Please add a big droolie welcome to the pile! Smiler

Not being able to articulate during a migraine is horrid. Sometimes I have issues spitting the words out, and sometimes it's just a good bit of a lag between hearing someone, processing, and then following through myself with a response. Then I sometimes garble. It's something I'm always quite aware of when it happens, but can't really do much about. I always want to preface things with, "I'm not really an idiot....honest." Annoying! Mad
