My dr. started me on Prozac 10 days ago for depression and panic attacks. It has given me a terrible headache since the first day, but I think the headache has now turned into a migraine. As of last night, I've very sensitive to sound and light.
Usually I get my migraines in my right temple, but this is in both temples. I'm also seeing floaty spots and my vision is a little blurry. I took some Maxalt last night & fell asleep. The headache was better when I woke up today, but it seems to be getting worse again. I'm not sure if I should take the Maxalt because I'm not sure it's a migraine. Thanks in advance for input or suggestions. LisaB |

Hi Lisa,
I'm sorry you still feel awful. Have you contacted your doctor yet to let him/her know what is going on? Please let us know what your doctor says Laura Forum Moderator ***You're welcome to enter your birthday, etc in the Celebrate folder so we can party with you!! =) *** |

Lisa,
Does activity make your head hurt worse? What about sitting down, bending over, and putting your head between your knees. That's one way to differentiate between headache and Migraine -- usually. With these different symptoms, it would be best to check in with your doctor. Please let us know how you're doing? ![]() Teri Robert Lead Expert, MyMigraineConnection terimmc@helpforheadaches.com

First of all, I agree with Teri; contact your doctor as soon as you can for a good assessment of your symptoms.
Putting my head between my knees rarely works for me to identify migraine pain. What does work is getting up and walking a few steps. If it's a migraine, my head hurts madly with each footfall. Take care and keep us posted. |

I tried Teri's test and the pain in my head did get worse when I put my head between my knees, so I ended up taking Maxalt-MLT yesterday (and re-dosing 3 hours later) and my headache is much better.
Doc says the headache is normal from the Prozac and to try taking it for a few more days & I should get used to it. (Easy for HER to say!!!) Thanks for your replies and concern! LisaB |

Good luck Lisa!
I hope that the headache side effect of the Prozac calms down for you - and super fast too!!!! Your right - sometimes it's the old "easier said then done" when dealing with side effects. I hope you get though it and the side effect goes away fast. Keep us posted! Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better today! I'm glad you talked to your doctor. Did she say what to do for the next few days while you're waiting for the side effect to wear off? [Or not?]
If it doesn't clear up, don't be afraid to insist that you try something else. There are plenty more antidepressants, and just because one SSRI doesn't work doesn't mean another won't. I tried Prozac for 3 weeks back in 1990, when I first went on preventives. It made my head much worse. I had gained weight taking Pamelor, and Prozac was supposed to let you lose weight. I did lose a pound or two, but it certainly wasn't worth the misery. Gretchen in Mississippi |
