Have you checked online for one? They are as cost prohibitive as I thought they were. With Sol's prescription you should have no problem getting one.

Or go to an independent pharm. and see how much they charge for one. Maybe the store Sol gets her meds from would "cut" you a deal.

Sorry that my wife Sol didn't respond about what a TENS unit is. Things have been crazy around here with her health as of late and we haven't been on the boards quite as often.

Looks like others have responded so thats cool. Smiler

My wife had the TENS for only a week before insurance decided they won't cover it since the unit hasn't been "approved" for migraines. This irks me but for now we have given the unit back and are trying to get another one approved for her lupus related pain. Had the doctor wrote the referral for "neck pain" or "tension headaches" it would have been approved so they say.

Anyways, I hope that your tension headaches have gone by the wayside and haven't triggered any migraines (as they can in my wife and others).

Peace,

Dave

Big GrinGood idea Nancy.

May as well buy one otherwise it will cost us 60 bucks a month to rent from our HMO.

Will look into getting a unit elsewhere since it seemed to help Sol even if it didn't help her migraines. Plus being the old man that I am I'm sure I could put it to good use on my bum back and neck.

Peace,

Dave

You can BUY a TENS unit for about $100 -- no need to rent one for $60 a month, it's a total rip off.

Think about trying a chiropractor for your tension headaches... chiropractic works quite often to reduce muscle tension & improve the biomechanics in the spine... then you may get fewer tension headaches = fewer migraines or less intense migraines. I am a chiropractor (and a migraine patient as well) and I get frequent referrals from the neurologist in my building for other headache patients... he sends me both migraine patients and muscle tension headache patients...
Ask your doctor what he/she thinks, but it is certainly an option.

I think that's a great suggestion. I've actually been seeing a chiropractor for a few months now, and I've noticed that the intensity (but not the frequency) of my migraines has decreased. He does spinal adjustments, accupressure, and light stretching for me and that seems to work. It's done more for me than the meds have so far, although, I am having some decent results with Zonegran. It sure beats all the side effects of the medications!

that's great! your chiropractor can probably get you a TENS if you need one. ask him/her about massage therapy or craniosacral therapy as well, as both of those are good adjuncts to chiropractic & can be helpful for headaches too.
good luck
