Hello Ben and welcome to our forum family! Our goal is to provide everyone with the information and support that we all need to manage our Migraines and/or headaches. To that end, we consider this a “safe harbor,” where nobody tries to sell us anything, and we all use “family-friendly” language so parents are comfortable letting their children read the forum with them.

Please take a few minutes to review our policies and guidelines along with the other information in the START HERE folder. For information about Migraines, a good article to begin with is Learning About Migraines - Where to Start.

Well, we can't diagnosis you over the internet. The best person to ask about seeing the spots would be your doctor. Have you gone to see him/her yet and to ask their opinion? Have you been diagnosed with Migraines? If so, which kind do you have?

Please stop by again and let us know what your doctor had say, okay? Smiler

Hi Ben!

Welcome to the forum!

You did not state if you have a headache or a Migraine or any other type of pain that comes around with the spots. I hope that it's just that you are seeing spots and that is it! Fingers Crossed

Although what you describe is not exactly the same as what I 'see', but I have Migraine with Aura and I see all sorts of things! I have floaters - they look like little ameba's floating around in oil on my eyeball. Sounds good right! Roll Eyes So I have that and then I also get shooting starts. It will be a flash of light that just kinda moves across my field of vision.

On the really good days I get the zig zag aura, which means I'm really in trouble! The zig zags are black and white and go up and out of my vision. Quite interesting!

Before I was diagnosed, I thought everyone saw this stuff and had the head pain I experience! Not so!

As Laura said, we cannot diagnose you over the internet. It is something to bring up to your doctor and also your eye doctor as well.

Hope this helps a bit.

Hello Eileen Gray,

I try to reply you Is this the way I do by the way? Thanks for you message gives me somewhat comfort that people have similair problems with "seeying". I have no headache but my problems started (I think) when i hit puberty and one day I was making a test at school one at a suddend I couldnt see any more before my eyes it was all distorted I could look only trough one tiny hole... They say that was very "migraine related"

Can you tell me what medication you take or recommondations?

Thanks anyways!

Ben

So you have gotten this checked out by a doctor, who diagnosed it being migraine-related? What kind of doctor was it? A neurologist? An eye doctor? A general practitioner?

Considering that you don't always get a headache with this, I'd think you'd probably be best off getting a second opinion from an eye doctor, just to confirm whether or not it might be migraine-related, or to rule any other potential cause out. There are several other things that can have eye disturbance issues with them besides migraine. Even if it is migraine, if you're noticing a pattern change, like it's happening more frequently, or for longer duration, or it's just becoming more troublesome, then that's always a sign you should get it checked out.

That all said, there is such a thing as migraine without head pain. It's called acephalgic migraine. You can read about it if you click this link: Acephalgic Migraine: The Basics.

Yep, you replied correctly! Smiler

Sounds like you've been to a doctor, is that correct? If they said it was very "Migraine related" - did they give you a diagnosis? Did they tell you what kind of Migraine you have?

Droolie gave you the link for Silent (Acephalgic) Migraine. If you have any questions about that link, please feel free to ask. The more we learn, the better patients we become.

As far as the medications I personally take, they do not treat the visual aura that I get, they treat the Migraine. I take preventive medications daily and then abortives (mine is Frova) when a Migraine strikes. These medications are used to stop the Migraine process, or help to make them less frequent - they don't treat the visual symptoms at all. I just want to make sure you understand that.

I really can't recommend a medication to you because I am not a doctor. We do talk about medications we take or about medications we have tried or think may work for us, but this is after being diagnosed. We have some links about medications for Migraine that you may find interesting but again, if your diagnosis is not Migraine or you have not been diagnosed at all, I don't think they will be very beneficial.

Preventive, Abortive and Rescue Medications: What's the Difference?

Migraine Preventive Medications: Too Many To Give Up!

Hope this helps. Again, please come back with any questions you may have.

Yes ive been to a docter and a eye docter and a neurololigst where i did a Vip (I dont know if it's have the same name in America as in the Netherlands) but the test means that you have all attachments to you head and lay down, lights go on and off and you have to watch a monitor withs display a "chestboard" with a cross you have to track with your eyes. And thats the way they monitor your brain activity mine was abnormal so now i have topamax ( and must take it for six weeks before i take another "Vip" Test. Hello Smiler and Thanks first most for the reply.
Ive been checked out by all there nothing wrong with my eyes but with the activity in my brain on the righside that has come out by a VIP test (dont know if it has the same name in America as in the Netherlands) you lay down with attachments to you head lights go on and off you close your eyes also on and off and watch a monitor with a "chestboard" with a cross you have to track. The test concluded abnormal activities in that part of the brain and gave me migraine related medicine topamax about six weeks i take the test again.. Thanks for the link i check it out Ben
