My husband has terrible migraines caused by the Santa Ana winds in Southern California. Any suggestions to help him? Would a humidifier help as the winds are so dry?
And, anyone know a good migraine specialist in S. CA? Thanks |

Hi Cammy,
I don't have migraines caused by weather. But I will say in general I find a humidifier helpful during our dry California winters (and summers). That is certainly not something that would hurt. Migraine Specialist. Here is the forum list of migraine specialist. Most of them are in Southern CA. I would encourage you to have your husband see a migraine specialist for his care. It really is the best thing. Please let us know if there are other ways we can help and support you or your husband. We don't have alot of guys on the site, but everyone is welcome!! Cindy |

Hi, Cammie, welcome to the forum. We're glad you found us.
Does your husband know if he might have other triggers, in addition to the winds? Take a look at this article: Common Migraine Triggers One thing that really helps in identifying triggers is a migraine diary: Your Migraine and Headache Diary Would you like to use the Significant Others only folder in this forum? I absolutely hate wind, and can quite easily trigger off of it, though I don't as much as I used to since my migraines have calmed down. The thing with winds and other weather-related triggers is that they're among the very hardest to do much about. They're almost impossible to avoid, since we have no control over the weather.
A lot of us with weather-related migraine triggers find preventatives to be hit and miss in dealing with them. But really, just like when dealing with any other trigger, preventative regimens are the key, and if I'm any proof, once you do get the beasts under some semblance of control through preventatives, then it is possible to find improvement on the weather trigger front. I certainly feel for your husband. Weather shifts and weather in general is my number one trigger. Dragondrool Forum Moderator ~~8=:>>>> |

Fledgling |
Hi!
I had migraines triggered by the Santa Ana winds for years. I thought it was because of the barometric pressure change, but it might actually be due to the change in pollens. (i.e. it was allergy related) A friend of mine recommended adding local honey (raw if possible) to my diet (to build up an immunity to the pollen I think...) I've been doing this for a little over a year (I drink honey in my tea every morning, so it was an easy switch), and so far, the Santa Anas have not been bothering me. Good luck (Best place to get local honey is at the farmer's markets - just double check that they are local.) |

Glad you found something that helped, MoniMe!
Mmmm... local honey sounds absolutely wonderful, and if it works as way for you to stop the allergic reactions, all the better! Yum! Jamie Forum Moderator |
