Hi All,

It's very hot here in CA. I have noticed I have been having allergy/sinus problems...excessive sneezing and the like. The sinus headaches seem to trigger a Migraine every time. I'm not used to this. I'm constantly nauseas and my head feels like it is too heavy to hold up. I feel feverish and sick and my vision is blurred. When I wake in the morning after a sinus headache, I have a Migraine.

This is awful. I don't know if I'm venting or what, but is this normal?

Ever since I came off Topamax I feel like my immune system has weakened.

I have an MRA next week and after that my Neuro will see me.

Help?

Hope you're all doing well.

Additional Info

I have not had allergy or sinus problems in years. I get maybe one sinus infection every few years and never had a problem with sinus headaches. My husband is an avid allergy/sinus sufferer and says he thinks they are sinus headaches which trigger Migraines.

Hello, FXTX.

True sinus headaches are very rare. They generally only occur with actual sinus infections. Other times that people think they are having sinus headaches, they are usually having migraines. See this article:

Sinuses Giving You a Headache? It's Probably Migraine.

Is it possible the hot weather is a trigger for you? I can trigger very easily off heat and sun. Other types of weather may also trigger migraines. See this article:

Migraines Often Triggered By Change In the Weather

Unfortunately, there is little you can do to control these types of triggers.

Thank you for the reply.

I spoke with my Mom and she thinks it might be heat stroke. My symptoms are more consistent with that than anything. If I can't get this to go away I am going to consult my Dr asap.

Heat is certainly a trigger though. But it's a new trigger for me.

I'm doing everything I can to cool down.

Is your Mom a doctor? Not being a smarty pants. Real question. OK?

If she's not, you need to be talking to your doctor about this, not your Mom, or at least in addition to your Mom.

As Nutcracker pointed out, unless you have a sinus infection, sinus headaches are rare, even with allergies. Plus, did you know that some of us sneeze as a prodrome symptom to a Migraine? Yep. True.

So, we all need to listen to our Moms, but unless they're doctors, we need to talk to our doctors about symptoms that might be new Migraine patterns, triggers, or symptoms. Fair enough?

Do you already have that appointment set with your neuro? Please don't wait too long to find out. You may also be depriving yourself of relief.

Ms Teri,

No Dr just a concerned Mom Smiler

It's getting pretty bad though I think I'll be seeing a Dr or maybe the ER soon. I feel like I'm going to pass out and my breating is very labored.

I did wake up with a migraine this morning but I was able to sleep it off. could it be back. these are not normal symptoms for me

Got it re the Mom. Big Wink

OK, sweetie. If your breathing is labored, I seriously doubt that this is Migraine related. Regardless of what I or anyone thinks at this point, you need to call your doctor first thing in the morning. PLEASE? And let us know what happens. I'll be watching this thread.

Hi All,

Thank you for the support. I did end up going to the hospital this morning. I couldn't take it anymore and breathing was still very hard. I collapsed in the hallway of the hospital and the Dr came down with a team to get me. Thankfully, it was the hospital on base, so my Dr knew me. They checked my stats and my BP was very high and my pulse was 120. They said this was not good. The fact that it was so hot was making it harder on me to breathe coupled with the nausea.

They wheeled me up to the room and started trying to cool me down. I began to dry heave at first and then threw up about 5 times while shaking horribly. My Dr gave me an IV, Phenegran and my Imitrex shot. They watched me for several hours.

He said it was a Migraine that was made worse by the heat. My breathing was hard because I hyperventilated because the nausea was making it hard to breathe. Even though I had taken the Phenegran pills, it wasn't working, so he gave me the injection. As soon as I threw up my breathing was a little better.

My Neurologist put in for a new preventative. I just woke up so I'm not sure what it is, but my husband said he called.

I'm hoping the preventative will work. I'm up to 2-3/week and this is not normal for me. I will be talking to my Neurologist about this.

To top it all off, my husband was in a base excercise playing war games. My neighbor took me and stayed with me until he got there. I was so thankful to her.

Ms Teri I think you are right about sneezing being a sign.

This morning was downright scary.

Thank you SO much for checking in. After you mentioned breathing problems, I was really concerned. Never thought about the possibility that you were hyperventilating. I'm so glad you went to the hospital.

Rest and take care of yourself, darlin.

I'm glad you're doing much better, and I'm grateful your neighbor was there and was so helpful to you. Keep taking care of yourself, and hang in there. We'll root for that preventative switch to work for you.
