Hey guys,
Well this is my 6th day with a migriane and I noticed something this week. I have been trying to make my diet a little better for a few weeks now, so I am adding fruits and veggies, etc. Well two different days this week I had a banana at luch. Each time I could feel my headache spike up there a little bit. Granted it ahs been during this long migraine, so I don't know how well it was just the fruit or this cycle I am in. I just found it quite coincidental. I have not identified any food triggers before except caffiene. Are bananas or any kind of fruit a common trigger? Thanks for the input guys Wink

Yes, absolutely, bananas are on the list of migraine trigger foods. It is amazing just how many foods are possible suspects. It would be helpful for you to download the whole list of possible triggers foods. Pineapples and citrus are as well. Yogurt and nitrates are bad ones for my kids.

Oh, just thought of one more thing you can try to knock out your headache. Take about 400mg of magnesium a couple times today to see if it helps. It seems to help my kids but then I give it to them right at the onset. You might want to start taking magnesium and B2 on a daily basis as a preventative. These have had good success. GOod luck, it's so hard. My son has been having weekly migraines really bad now for 7 weeks since the spring weather change has started.

Bananas are a trigger for my son. And he loves them. Luckily, since starting Inderal, he can eat them again.

Hi Alaura,

Have you seen this article yet? I think it will help you identify any other food triggers you may have and it also has a downloadable work book you can use:

Managing Migraine – Migraine Trigger Foods

If you decide to use any supplements, please make sure you check with your doctor first to avoid any potential interactions with the medications you're currently taking.

Good luck and let us know how it goes, okay?

Plain and simple, any food has the potential to be a trigger for somebody. I've never had any issues with bananas, but I have seen them listed on a couple of lists of triggers, I believe.

Thanks for the input guys! I actually have never paid attention to food triggers before, never really had to. Other than caffiene I didn't think I had any. I will have to look into this better and see if I can't avoid some of my migraines!
Sadmom- Welcome! I had tried the magnesium and vitamins for a few years actually, but they didn't change anything for me. But I have heard about a ton of success with them helping others.
Thanks again guys!Wink

Yea, so tomorrow is our last day of school and we had a staff party after school today. The ladies that I work with, there are 4 of us in the room, we were responsible for making some smoothies for the party. It was a hoot, we made messes and had a great time. We made peach, mixed berry, and banana-pinapple flavors.

Once we finished makin them and got out to the party, i just reached down and grab one to enjoy myself. I wasn't really paying attention, just grabbed one, not being picky. Well go figure, I grabbed a banana-pinapple one. It was good, but I just recently found bananas to be a trigger. So I am paying for it now, my headache has spiked (But have also had this headache for 3 days now). I thought about it and realized the whole drink was a trigger Frowner. Bananas, pinapple, orange juice, yogurt, and ice. Only 4 of the 5 ingredients were triggers, or at least on the trigger list Roll Eyes.

It is kind of hard to remember to watch what you are taking in. At least for me, as I am just finding that I do have a few food triggers. How do you guys find your headache triggers? I am finding that I have some, just don't know how to single them out?

I agree, it is hard to be conscious of what you're taking in. Personally, I found that with food triggers, I had better get my rear in gear with asking every time I ordered food outside the house, as I kept getting Migraines after eating out. Adding extra unnessary migraines just 'cause I couldn't control what I put in my mouth was not cool.

I too have the banana as a food trigger, along with onions and splenda. At one point, ice cream was included in that list, but it's come back to the "happy" side.

It's really hard sometimes, but after years of learning the hard way, I started asking about ingrediants when I thought about it... to the point of now, it's just a habit. In fact, most of my friends and family know that if they're eating with me, I'm going to be askin' the waiter some questions.
