I know some of you are aspartame triggers and I was wondering if any of you know of any gun that does not have aspartame??
I thought at first that it would just be a matter of not buying sugar-free gum. But all of the ones that I looked at the last time I was at the store had aspartame listed as an ingredient. I really like gum... thanks. Laurelin |

I think, if I am not mistaken, there are a few brands out there using splenda now too. I don't remember for sure what brand it was, but I seem to think Trident may have a few???
I know it's not Orbit because I just checked my pack and they use aspartame. It's getting harder to find gum that isn't sugar-free anymore in general, I've noticed. It used to be that you could count on Wrigley's to not have aspartame in it, but the last pack of that I bought had aspartame as well as the sugar. I don't chew a whole lot of gum, and don't like overly strong mint gums.
I also can trigger off of gums with aspartame, and have to cautious trying different ones. Besides that, I've triggered more than a few times off the fumes of sugar-free gum being chewed by others around me, particularly Orbitz mint ones. Even with the aspartame, I've found two sugar-free gums that I can chew without triggering off of them. One is the 5 gum in spearmint, and the other is the Mandarin orange Stride gum, which I find quite tasty. I also handled that mint mojito gum they had out for awhile. That might've been Orbitz, but I don't remember. Lately I only buy the orange Stride gum. Like I said, though, I don't often chew gum. A pack lasts me a long, long time. Sometimes you can still get Bubble Yum and the like at stores, too, with all the sugar intact. That was much better when we were kids, though. I can still find Fruit Stripe gum, too, around here sometimes, which we loved as kids, and I find horrid now. Dragondrool Forum Moderator ~~8=:>>>> |

I have to admit that I clicked into this thread to find gum that didn't have Splenda in it. I'm fine with Aspartame, but Splenda kills my head. I think that Trident has splenda or xylatol (sp?) as the sugar substitute.

The regular Dentyne cinnamon gum, if you can find it, is aspartame-free, too. I'm talking the old school kind, not Dentyne Ice in any form. I haven't found it around here in several years, though. I think the Dentyne sugar-free was aspartame-loaded, though.

K. Thanks. I checked all the Trident packs in the store and they all said Aspartame. Course it has the xylitol too.
I forgot about the sugar "candy" gums. I guess I could try those but they're pretty sugary even to me. Laurelin |

I visited the websites of most popular US gum companies and was able to come up of this list of flavors of popular gum brands which do not contain aspartame.
Orbit Fabulous Frutini Dentyne Cinnamon Altoids Cinnamon Trident White Cinnamon Stride Sweet Cinnamon Looks like if you want to avoid aspartame you better like cinnamon gum. |

Hi, jackhammerhead!
I've noticed that even the Wrigley's sugar-based gums, like Double Mint and Juicy Fruit and Big Red also have aspartame listed on their labels now. My guess is that when they came out with the "new, longer-lasting flavor" bit a few years ago, that that's when they added the aspartame. Personally, I don't like their taste as much as I used to before they tweaked the formula. I still like Dentyne cinnamon, but I do get tired of cinnamon gum in general rather quickly, and it's very hard to find the regular Dentyne gum around here. Usually, if you do find Dentyne, it's the sugar-free variety. It's probably good that I'm not a big gum chewer. Dragondrool Forum Moderator ~~8=:>>>> |

I too had been wondering about gum. Thankfully I like cinnamon. I will be checking out the flavors that were listed.

Another oddball tidbit about me ~ though I often can't be too close to someone chewing strong sugar-free gums (especially mint), because the "fumes" will trigger me almost instantly, I don't seem to have trigger issues chewing it myself. Orbit's about the worst for triggering me when someone's chewing it around me. But I'm really liking the new Orbit Mist peppermint, and I've gone through over a pack now without triggering. Go figure.
