I wanted to share with you something I found that has helped me while working on the computer. I already have my monitor at the lowest brightness setting I can take, but sometimes the bright white background in some applications or websites are still too much for me especially since I work on a computer all day long.
I changed my window background from bright white to an ivory or off white color. This changed it for most of the windows I view on my computer system wide. It includes email, the Microsoft applications I use as well as Internet sites where the white background no longer appear white to me. My head feels so much calmer now then with the white screaming at me. I went into the control panel and then the display options from the start, setting options menu. Computer systems do vary as to where you should go so your path may not be the same as mine. While in my display properties, I went to an Appearance tab where I could see an Active Window box with the white background. I have an Advanced button on this page that I clicked into. I changed the Item: to Window where I could see the Color 1 was white. I picked an off white color from the Other color template and now my window background is not piercing my head. One other hint which I learned from this site, the emoticons that keep moving around can be bothersome to some people at times; did you know you can hit the Esc button to make them stop moving? I know there are times they give me more trouble especially when they are strung across in a post and the Esc key will stop them cold. I wanted to share this in case it could help you too. I hope all is well. Puppet http://migrainepuppet.blogspot.com/ |

Great hints, especially the one about the background color. That's something I knew about way back once upon a time ago, but have since forgotten all about because I don't use it.

Very good tips!
I keep my screen on my computer turned as low as I can too....the brightness is no good for me! Other people look at my screen and think it's too dark. I look at it and think it won't cause me a Migraine after working on it at a lower brightness all day! I have to tell you that getting rid of the bright white backgrounds has made an enormous difference for me.
Although the backgrounds are off white to me, when I email or pass a document on to someone else, they see it as a white background since this is only a display issue on my computer. Eileen - I know what you mean about the brightness being too low. Sometimes if I want to really see a picture or graphic, I have to increase the brightness so I can get a good look at it before turning it back down. |

Wow! Thank you for the Esc tip to make things stop moving. Tried it immediately with Droolie's dragon's eyes and it worked! (Those never bothered me by the way Drool) but it's the advertisements that move that make me nuts! Thank you very much for such a simple answer!
take care, lisa |

Yeah, they're pretty much a slow, unobnoxious blink. I'm happy to have posted in the thread so that you could try out your nifty little new trick, though. Just one o' the many services we provide. LOL!
