Has anyone heard or seen any research on using Splenda and migraines? Someone at my job (another person with thoughtful suggestsions) told me that they read somewhere that using Splenda will trigger a migraine. That same person also had heard the same thing about Nutrasweet. Anyone ever heard this?
I've been using Splenda for a long time now and never noticed anything...but then again I've been having bad migraines for about the same time. |

As with other potential food triggers, it really depends on the person. Splenda and Nutrasweet are both triggers for some people. To find out if Splenda is a trigger for you, you need to eliminate it for a week or two, then try it again.
Splenda is not a food trigger for me, but I don't have any food triggers. ![]() Teri Robert Lead Expert, MyMigraineConnection terimmc@helpforheadaches.com

Hi psk,
I just happened to be looking at Teri's "Potential Migraine Trigger Workbook" b/c I was curious about another migraine food trigger myself. I found the workbook at the bottom of this article Managing Migraine Trigger Foods You have to download it. Just fyi. Hi psk, like Teri said, it depends on the individual. For me, I can't eat any of the sugar substitutes. Even high fructose corn syrup bothers me sometimes. I have the least problem with regular sugar, but if I eat a lot of it I get a migraine. So, I stay away from added sugars all together.

Aspartame triggers me something fierce, but I have no problems with Splenda doing so.

Well I'm glad my co-worker wasn't just blowing smoke.
It doesn't surprise me that Splenda and Nutrasweet can be triggers. It seems like any of those food additives can be potential triggers. I'm going to stop taking Splenda for a week or two and see what happens. |

Saccharine is the only artificial sweetener that doesn't trigger migraine attacks..but who wants saccharine?
You know what we need? A nice, cute 'throw up' emoticon. Hey, there are a lot of them out there! There are! 8'] http://stormlaughter.blogspot.com/ http://stormlaughter.deviantart.com/ basilar-artery migraine, MAV, BPPV, migraine with and without aura, cluster headaches, but no tension headaches! Oh, gosh, Splenda too, huh? I'm going to quit it for a week or two and see if that helps! I agree with Deb about the messing with natural foods issue. anyone remember that margarine commercial "It's not nice to fool Mother Nature"? Then look how bad for you margarine turned out to be!

"They" change their mind every other day about what is bad or good for you. 50 years ago doctors were advertising ciggarettes! Then after some years passed, people were like...hey, what do you think is causing all these lung problems?
I am all for real sugar. I think the imitations taste icky! But my Granny who's diabetic won't eat anything with real sugar. I personally think I would go for insulin shots instead but she doesn't want any. MW - I don't think I am up for a throw up icon. Ewww. I think it might make people sick just watching it. Nutcracker -
I think you are right. Everyone's mom has always told them to eat thier fruits and vegetables! Now people just argue about whether you should get special organic ones or if the mass produced ones are okay. Soon they'll probably start cloning them like they are already doing with cows. That's a whole 'nother arguement though. On the other hand there a probably a list of things we might all agree on. I think most people would agree that a diet consisting totally of chocolate chip cookies, while tasty, would not be in the slightest good for you. We just have to trial and error until we figure out what our bodies don't want. At least we should all be pros at that by now! When we are having family gatherings we just end up making two of the desserts (one with sugar and one with splenda) so that everyone can have some and not have whatever health issues they are avoiding. I meant that saccharine is the only one that doesn't trigger attacks in ME... We need a nice emoticon of a person crawling under a rock too... 8'] http://stormlaughter.blogspot.com/ http://stormlaughter.deviantart.com/ basilar-artery migraine, MAV, BPPV, migraine with and without aura, cluster headaches, but no tension headaches!
