This is something I plan to bring up at my next appointment, but I'm curious enough to post about vitamins (should I say brands of vitamins) being a possible trigger or a stackable trigger.

I tend to get nausea and a headache (frequently transitioning to a migraine) shortly after I take my multivitamin in the morning. I also have B2 & magnesium supplements in my regime. Has anyone else had this experience and found a multivitamin that doesn't have this effect?

FYI: I take it with food, and the other supplements are taken later in the day. Therefore, that's why I'm focusing on the multivitamin.

Yes, I can relate to this. There's a certain brand (can't remember which right now) of multivitamin that sets off terrible migraines for me. I've found that the One-a-Day vitamin brand is just fine for me though. I switched right back to it after my bad experience with the bad brand, and I've been perfectly fine. I suspect it's something in the filler they used, probably artificial sugar or citric acid. I keep forgetting to check the ingredients to know for sure what it was... Good luck switching to something else!

I know someone who is allergic to whatever they use to color orange medicines. Whenever she gets a prescription filled, she has to tell the pharmacist to choose a brand that isn't orange. Something like that could be triggering you.

I have a niece who cannot take iron in vitamins. It makes her very sick. She can take in food, but not any any form of vitamins. She has tried all sorts of brands and fomulas. It doesn't work for her.

Thanks for the replies-very interesting.

I suppose I'll add the B2 and magnesium back into my regime and see if they have the same effect without the multivitamin. Oh, I feel like a mad scientist.

Hi Liz,

I would investigate your brand. The quality of supplement you use makes a big difference! I suggest Standard Process, you can get it online, but not in stores as practitioners generally sell it.

Good luck!!

Have you tried taking your multivitamin at night? My prenatal vitamins made me nauseated when I took them in the morning, but I did fine after I switched to taking them at night.

I take the Walmart version of Centrum Silver.

I'm taking magnesium, and it's giving me no trouble. Neither did B2 when I took it.

I sometimes get nausea after taking my meds in the morning, and for the life of me I can't figure out which one is doing it. I never used to do that at all, with all the same meds. Once upon a time, my vitamin C started doing that to me, and I just cut it out.

Technically, I'm supposed to take my thyroid med on an empty stomach, but with that nausea thing, I find that if I take it after eating, I don't get queasy. So I just try and be consistent about the whole thing. If I start doing the nausea thing, I take my meds around lunchtime instead.
