Oh yeah. The sunlight SO bothers me. It usually happens when a Migraine is lurking. I had the odd experience just last week of taking my early morning walk a little later than usual. As I walked in a sunny area, the head pain would start. I could feel my blood pressure rise and the throbbing start. Then, I would walk into dense shade and the throbbing would recede. It was too strange. I did NOT like it. I later had a full-blown Migraine but the in-&-out thing was the oddest reaction I've had yet....

Sunlight and all summer-related weather (heat, storms, mugginess) will lead to migraines, but flickering light or shadows caused by bright sun will trigger them. Sunglasses do no good at all for the flicker. One interesting thing about the sun is that I have a sense of when it's going to be too much. Of course, that means when I cancel plans with people based on how the sun is making me feel, they really think migraines are all in my mind. On my sun-avoidance days, I get a feeling of hotness from the sun that is unrelated to the temperature and then I get the migraine fog rather than my usual prodromal prolonged auras.

Strong sunlight, glare, flickering lights, fluorescent lights, yes! I've found "reading sunglasses that really help me - UVA/UVB-blocking, lightly tinted reading glasses at Dollar Tree,of all places. My Optometrist works with me to keep my prescriptions up to date, & he was the one who told me to try going to Dollar Tree & getting a bunch of cheap reading glasses that work for me & leaving them everywhere. So, I have probably a dozen pair scattered all over both houses (have I told y'all about renovating the house I inherited?), a pair in each vehicle, etc. Ditto with sunglasses of varying darknesses. I even wear "light" sunglasses in early mornings and evenings because there is just enough glare to hurt. Rebecca

About that sunlight as a trigger thing--it was ultra dramatic for me this past week over the 4th of July. I went out walking in the morning AGAIN. I was out of town and in a different place. The heat and humidity along with the sunlight were causing the big M to be such a royal pain in the head! BUT as soon as I walked into the very dark, VERY cool lobby of the hotel we were staying in, the big, bad Migraine almost immediately subsided to a mild, tolerable level!! It was so dramatic that I was so surprised. The symptoms going away so fast was better than any drug I have ever taken. I wonder if walking into a dark freezer would have the same effect? Wow, I may just stay at this same hotel from now on....
