I'm curious to know of the outside sunlight bother's you, either during a migraine or can trigger a migraine for you? I was reading somewhere that for some people it can trigger a migraine depending on what type of migraine that you get and other's it doesn't bother people at all.

I don't think that the *type* of migraine we have determines what our triggers will be. Many of us have more than one diagnosis of migraine, and different things can trigger at different times.

Personally, I don't think I've ever had a migraine triggered by sunshine. But I can't go outside during a migraine attack, even on a cloudy day. The outside light makes my eyes and behind my eyes hurt, and it can occasionally cause pain in my temples, too.

I squint if I don't wear sunglasses. Squinting is not good for my headaches or migraines. I also wear a ball cap when the dog walks me. It cuts down on glare.

However, it's important for me to get outside as much as I can. I think being outside, breathing outside air, in the natural light, is good for my mood, and life in general is better. And walking around the neighborhood, led by Sparky, of course, lets me be a nosy neighbor. I can see who's having a birthday or a baby, who's getting a new roof and who is doing it, and who has their house up for sale, and how long they stay on the market.

I guess the simple answer to your question is, "Sometimes."

Sometimes. Therefore, if I am going to be out in the sun I always wear a baseball cap.
My glasses have the Transition Lens which go dark whenever I am outsite. So that does help a little.

I wear sunglasses and a ballcap, even to go check the mail.Yes,for me it can be a trigger.
I wear sunglasses in the store,at the er,at the dr's office, which I don't understand why either of those are so bright.
It's not worth the risk.It didn't used to be a trigger. For me light is a trigger,it's one of the few I figured out.Other than that just living is a trigger.

Not usually. I think the couple times I did think a migraine was from sun, it was probably actually from dehydration.

The sun is definitely one of my big triggers and this time of year does not help. I commute to and from work, about an hour in each direction, directly into the rising and setting sun using my sunglasses, car visor, hat and even a towel stuffed behind my rear view mirror (which could land me an obstruction of vision ticket in my state!).

Some people will trigger if the sunlight is scattered and flickering, like when you are driving along a tree-lined area, and you get the light flashing through the spaces between the branches.

Sunlight doesn't usually bother me. I'm much more sound sensitive than light sensitive, even during a bad attack. Flickering flourescent lights bother me quite a bit, but sunlight doesn't.

Yeah, it bothers me a lot. And driving on a sunny day, when the light flickers through the trees? Instant migraine.

LauraSue.
(I'm 54, have had severe migraines for over 4 years due to menopause, plus I have fibromyalgia. I take Imitrex plus Anaprox as an abortive and am working with my migraine specialist to find a preventive. I keep a detailed migraine diary and have made significant lifestyle changes to reduce my risk of migraines.)

Joyce,

Yes, and yes! Bright sunlight can be a trigger for me if I don't protect myself from it. Even when I was wearing contacts and didn't need prescription sunglasses, I had mine made by an optician -- frames that fit well, a dark pure grey tint, and always polarized. When I have a Migraine, ANY light usually bothers me. I'm never without my sunglasses, indoors or out.

Thank you all! I'm glad i'm not alone in Sunlight being a trigger! Its been 80 degree weather today and yesterday with sunlight. I like going outside for at least 15 minutes but I need to shade my eyes when I do so. I feel like I always have to squint. (that's cause I can't find my perscription sunglasses yet, lol) that me though. Can't find things when I need them.

atrz- oh ya, a ballcap. good idea! sometimes I forget I have one, lol.

Immediately! If I already have a headache, it worsens immediately. If I don't already have one, it begins. Sunglasses are a must!
