I am making this ridiculously long list of everything that has happened since these migraines have gotten worse. I started getting high blood pressure and started the drug altace around the same time the migraines hit. Has anyone ever found that a med they were on was causing migraines?

I suppose the blood pressure in itself could be a trigger.......

Increasing blood pressure does trigger headaches, and it's certainly not impossible that a medication might trigger migraines. However, there could be other things that are going on. You should check with your doctor as soon as possible.

When are you due to go to the headache clinic? If it's not VERY soon, I think you should call your physician to report this. This can be a significant symptom of other problems as well as migraines and should be checked out asap, in my opinion.

Well, my GP knows of my HBP and he isn't alarmed at the migraines and BP, so I guess he doesn't think its that urgent.....I have been to the ER at least 8 times with a migraine and high blood pressure and nobody has ever said anything! My blood pressure is controlled with the medication, UNLESS I get hit with a VERY severe migraine, in which case I end up in an emergency room, anyway. Hopefully this migraine clinic will find some long awaited answers for me. I appreciate all the advice I am getting from everyone! Heart

I've got high BP that's being treated successfully with Avapro. I first tried Benicar, and it made my head worse.

My problem with Benicar doesn't mean that anybody else will have the same problem.

I'm not familiar with Altrace, but I also have chronic hypertension and started having more headaches and migraines after being put on Procardia.

My cardiologist told me that Procardia, a calcium channel blocker, was known to exacerbate headaches (but not migraines). He switched me to Verapamil, an anti-hypertensive that also is used as a migraine preventative. Unfortunately I still had migraines after switching to Verapmail but at least I have been able to identify some of my triggers.

Also high blood pressure can give me a headache. Then again when I have a migraine the pain can spike my blood pressure. In my case I think the migraine precedes the high BP, not the other way around, since my BP is normally well controlled on meds.

HTH.

Would using the Migriane diary make it easier for you to track any potential Migraine triggers?

I know someone who is very sensitive to MSG- just eating dinner at Chinese restaurant sent her to the ER with high blood pressure. As long as she avoid MSG she is ok though.
