My PCP wants me to exercise 30 minutes a day, every day. I either walk or ride an exercise bike. But I only make 5 or 6 days a week, sometimes 4. But I've got a great exercise requirement now.

My late dog Sparky had been my walking buddy, but he had stopped walking because of his arthritis. Last week we got Molly, who HAS to be walked EVERY day. Not just for the emptying factor, but to burn off energy. Molly's from a shelter, about 1 1/2 years old, of many breeds mixed together, and very energetic.

I walk as fast as I can, and if I could run, she'd go faster. She stops and sniffs occasionally, so it's like interval training.

I haven't had a stay-in-bed migraine attack since we got her, but either DS or DH will have to do the honors if I do.

I never completely graduated from kindergarten, and I've got a calendar hanging on the fridge. Every day I have 30 minutes of activity, I get to put a sticker on the calendar. It's silly and fun, and a great way to figure out how many days a week I've made my goal of 6 days. I get the feeling it will be 7, however.

Gretchen I understand. At work we use these project plans. I wasn't using it correctly and I wasn't getting the pretty blue check marks when something was completed. I finally figured out how to do and it really motivates me!!!

Again, seems silly it's such a little thing, but it works. And the thing for you that isn't silly is the time Molly needs with you to keep her happy and healthy too, just additional motivation.

BTW, I'd get gold stars to put on!!

Gretchen,

We have two large dogs that get walked at least once a day. DH usually walks them in the early morning but when it's not to hot out we go again in the evening. I love to walk them because it gets me out of the house, I get added exercise and I can enjoy the neighborhood.

This week DH is out of town so my son and I have been walking them everyday. It's been energizing! Today will be interesting because I'm still fighting a migraine from yesterday so I'm curious if the exercise will help or hurt my migraine.

Gretch,

I think it's great that you are able to get out and have your dog walk you Wink.

Nothing at all silly about marking what you have to do today and mapping your progress. I do the same with lists. It makes me feel like I've accomplished something to check something off.

And also big Thumbs Up for not having to be bedridden lately! That's awesome!!!!

An Update: The walk didn't make it any better or any worse yesterday. Today I have a bit of a migraine hangover and a walk usually does me some good, so, get ready puppy dogs, here I come!!

That's great that the walk didn't hurt your head. I hope today's walk was good for the hangover.
