Enough is enough. I have not gained anymore weight the past two months (my summer goal) and now it's time to go down the slide! Although every ounce of me wants to continue my mellow walks and mild yoga tapes I need to kick it up a notch and lose some pounds now. I found myself a nice spiral notebook and writing down every calorie I eat and this past week I concentrated on increasing the walk speed and added another block to half hour walks. Max, my best dog friend, is happy too.
Although still having 2-3 migraines a week is going to make this a challenge it's time! My preventative was just increased so hoping and praying this will help the frequency of these migraines. but even if I am hurting some days, I need to move. Of course last night I got a migraine that the Treximet helped me to sleep but it's back again today as usual. But I am going to go put on my gym shoes and get out there anyway, at least it's cool today. Anyone else on the same boat? Could use the support and the encouragement and I will certainly give it back to you! looking to be a lighter, lisa |

Good Morning,
I need to lose myself. I'm use to being 135-140 but now I'm 190. That's a lot of weight on my limbs. I use to be able to wear my 17 year old daughter's clothes. How are you going to start? I have only done some yoga streching. Dutchess p092008224226[1].JPG |

Wishing you migraine free days, for healthy living. When I first found out that I had diabetes I went on this exercise craze only to make my migraines so much worse. I felt so guilty. I was so torn between the diabetes and the migraines. Swimming seems to be the best migraine friendly exercise for me. I have lost 23 pounds since April. Slow and steady seems the be way for everything in my life these days.
PS i would be happy to be an encouraging clap in your corner Nicole |

Cindy,
Do you keep track of calories? I find it is the only thing to keep me overeating/emotional eating. I am trying to go walk as soon as the school bus leaves that way if I am still hurting I can rest before after school nuttiness. But somedays my head is the worst in the morning, which will mean a push for after dinner walks when my laziness is a factor. I am just trying to tell myself "You will walk today, just find the best time for you" Dutchess, I am starting by increasing the length of my walk and increasing speed when I can. And of course watching the calorie intake. Baby steps!! Nicole, congratulations on your weight loss!! I had not thought of swimming. Where do you swim? Walking when I am migraining sometimes increases my pain too but I don't want to invest money in this at this point. Any other things you found worked for you? I woke up this morning and while I was making coffee (decaf) my aura started so haven't walked today yet but I will!! Keep up the good work ladies! Lisa and Max, woof! |

I swim at the YMCA. The Y is very good about helping people with disabilities and people with a low budget. If you talk to them they could possibly waive the joining fee or reduce your monthly fee.

I could start by to walking at work. The building I work in is equal to 2 1/2 miles. I don't have to walk to because it has small hills. If I get to tired, there are benches near by.
I've got the eating part down. There is a safty person in my work group. She has a Weight Watches book. It's really neat. It has tells of the different calories of a lot of different foods. Even resturants. p092008224226[1].JPG |

I'm in. My Gyn's office says I've lost 10 lbs. in a year. THat's 10 of the about 70 I need to lose.
Dutchess, I'm like you, needing to lose down to about 130. I was about 108 on my wedding day, 31 years and 3 babies ago. I have the Weight Watchers' Points booklets. I lost almost 20 lbs a few years ago with them when DH and I joined. BUT,...! So, I'm going to sign off now and take the Dachshund and the Lab for a nice walk (in 86 degree, Heat Index about 90, at 9 pm weather? Rebecca, The Island Mama |

Nicole, We just had a new high school open with a beautiful pool opened to the community, I will go check out when and how much. But I have to say getting a swimsuit on sounds scary!!
Dutchess, walking at work sounds great, have you tried this week? and Rebecca, at least you are down from last year! I gained your ten and then some. I am a mom of two, almost, teenage boys so there is a lot of food/cooking in my house. We are fairly healthy eaters and I only let them buy chocolate ice cream which I don't eat. I need to remember that I am teaching them their eating habits! I like to bake, that has been my downfall. I have been home more since my migraines have become more frequent and baking is something I can still do for my family. But my zucchini bread was too good, and too much sugar, this past month. Fortunately our garden zucchini is gone. I have been walking daily, 40 minutes yesterday. My legs felt it last night. Unfortunately I ahve also had three migraines the past four days. Waiting for my increased dose ofmy preventative to kick in! Oh, and how often do you weigh yourself? Keep moving and eating well, lisa |

Yes I did !! I was so proud of me. I've been craving cigs. It's hard it's been weeks since I had one. None of the gum and patches work.
I start slow and stop when I got to tired. How is you increase going? Dutchess p092008224226[1].JPG |

Just saw this and thought I would pass it on...
Burn More Calories per Mile at 2 MPH Researchers at the University of Colorado at Boulder confirmed that people burn more calories per mile walking a very leisurely 2 miles per hour than walking a moderate to brisk 3 to 4 miles per hour. Researcher Ray Browning also noted a surprise finding, that obese people have modified their body movement so that they are energy-efficient walkers. While they burn more calories per mile due to moving more weight over that distance, the calories burned per pound of body weight was similar to lean people. Slower Walking is Easier on the Joints More good news is that strolling slower also reduces the loads on the knee joints by 25%. This can be an important factor as obese people take up an exercise program to burn calories while reducing the risk of injury. "The message is that by walking more slowly, obese individuals can burn more calories per mile and may reduce the risk of arthritis or joint injury," said Ray Browning in a press release. Walking with fitness poles has a similar effect, burning more calories per mile while taking pressure off of the knees and joints. Why Do You Burn More Calories at Low Speed? At low speeds, you lose the efficiency of already being in motion - momentum, as one step is the springboard to the next step. This makes your muscles work a little harder with each step. |
