Does anyone have any advice to stop the emotional eating I do when I am migraining? With minimal nausea but a hurting head I only want comfort food and usually bread, bagels, cereal etc. And such a craving for cookies it is just silly.

I am getting the exercise in on off migraine days but not enough to be losing the weight I want to. I know I need to work on my intake more but when I am hurting I just can't.

Just wondering if anyone also stuggles with emotinal eating, or comfort eating when migraining...

blessings,
lisa

I definitely have a snacking problem when I'm depressed. I gained quite a bit of weight in HS during a bout with depression, and lately I've noticed my snacking has way increased.

I don't have any great ideas on how to stop it, but, I have found that keeping mostly healthy food in the house does help. At least I'm eating healthy snacks rather than junk food. (I have a lot of dietary restrictions though, so we don't keep most typical junk food in the house anyway.)

Have you ever tried keeping a food diary? Sometimes just the act of writing down every single thing you eat helps you curtail the snacking.

I'm an expert on emotional eating.

MJ had two great suggestions, food diary and keeping healthy things in the house.

My suggestion is try to find heathier versions of what you crave. Light bagels and bread, healthy cereals, and 100 cal cookie packs.

My big comfort food when I'm in a bad mig cycle is either pasta with butter and parmesan. So I use whole wheat pasta, lite butter and reduced fat parmesan. Not as good as the real thing, but close enough.

Maybe you can find a way to trim some calories off your comfort foods.

Good Luck

Just thought I would update: had four migraines last week and one this week and NO cookies!! Yes, I missed them but of course was too sick to make them or go to the big bright grocery store to get them.

This morning my aura came as soon as the kids were out the door. I took my medicine, did a yoga tape, took a shower before the pain got too bad. Rest of the day I took care of ME without any sugar except for my whole wheat bagel with a little honey.

Thanks for all the suggestions!
