How did you break your unhealthy lifestyle bad habbits? And how would you encourage other people to break their unhealthy lifestyle bad habbits?

For me I wanted to start exercising, and to me not exercising was an Unhealthy lifestyle and what I did was keep a journal. What I heard was 21 days breaks a habbit. So I alternated exercises each day so I wouldn't get board and after 21 days, Now I want to exercise. Maybe not everyday. But At least 4-6 times a week. It got me going on the Right Path! How about you.

I'd give them support, should they want it, but if they don't want to break the habit, there's nothing that I can say that will make someone stop doing something... it's their body... (shrug)

As far as breaking my own bad habits... I donno... I'm not sure I've done so well... Although, I guess I am, 'cause even though I still bite my fingernails and drink diet coke, I've learned that I need more sleep right now that I used to, and I'm taking it for myself. That's a biggie for me. I'm a night person, normally... so, going to bed when I'm normally not accustomed to doing so is a healthy habit I've acquired... and it's keeping me functional.

I'm not faithful to a journal, but I hang a pretty calendar on the fridge and give myself a gold star -- literally -- when I exercise. I get additional stars when I exercise for more than 30 minutes. I buy fun stickers when I see them and use them on my calendar.

It's harder for me since the dog got very arthritic. We used to walk 2 miles. Then he cut it to one mile. Now, we don't make it all the way around the block. So the daily walk isn't a real exercise session anymore.

I like the calendar Sticker Idea. Great suggestion! I have a dog too and with chronic fatigue that I have I don't always have the energy to walk the dog. But I will play with her inside the house.
