I'm surprised nobody answered this yet...
I exercise for one hour daily, 5x a week (running/jogging/walking). Any other migraine exercisers out there?! |

It depends. I always walks (unless I am unable to move thanks to a migraine) because I don't have a driver's license, so I walk for an hour, 2 hours a day.
But I do quite a lot on a good day (=some head pain, still vertical). I do yoga for about an hour and then in the afternoon I bike, around 50 km (30 miles) at a reasonably fast pace. If I feel the headache acting up I skip the yoga but 4/5 days I would still bike because why not, from experience I know I would get a migraine anyway so why do nothing. Sometimes I know it's not a good idea so I don't go. |

I've been getting migraines since I was 19. Over the past few years, they haven't been that bad. About a month ago, I got a full blown migraine where I had to take an Immitrex and sleep it off-about 12 hrs. I've been getting a lot of ice pick headaches lately-they hurt really bad but pass quickly.
Now that you know what kind of migraineur I am, here is what kind of exerciser I am. I try to work out at least 15 minutes to an hour a day. I have several different vhs and dvds-yoga, pilates, tae bo, strength training, circuit training, cardio and ab work. I mix it up so I don't get bored. We have an old bowflex machine and an elptical that I use occasionally. I walk with my neighbor or a friend- 1.3 mile trip. Or hubby, son and I take our dogs for a hike. Lastly, we have a pool so, I'll go for a swim. Yvonne-MigraineMom |

If it's at the gym, the workout is about an hour and a half. Of course, what I do is depending on how bad of a day I'm having.
On a good day I'll warm up on the bike, work on the elliptical trainer for 30-40 min., weights, and end with some yoga. On a bad day if I go to the gym, I just stay on the bike for an hour and pat myself on the back for even being there. I like to do yoga at home with the kids. It was especially fun when I was pregnant. We also go for walks in the evening or play fresbie after dinner. (With four young children, it's an active sport and is played more like fresbie football.) I took my first water aerobics class last night, and I LOVE it. It's 1 hr 45 min, it's fun but it's actual work. Unfortunately it's just once a week, but it may get me motivated to do more.
