Hi! I am glad to have the site. I have had migraines since I was 6. I am now 38. Just like most of us I have been on almost evry OTC & Rx drug available. They work for a time then stop doing the trick. I usally end up in the ER 2/month. Doctors are starting trat me like a seeker but I have been a pharmacy tech since 1989 and I do believe if were to become addicted I would have when I had free and easy access on a daily basis. I can not work any longer because of the HAs. Currently I am on Cymbalta and Topamax 200mg.
My youngest daughter has recently began having headaches that have the signs/symptoms of migraines. She will 7 in October. I really feel so bad about it. My mom had classic migraines and my dad had cluster migraines. It is hard for me to know that her headaches maybe because of me (genetically). How do I answer her when she asks me why does she have headaches and her older sister does not? I know this is a long post and I apologize but it is comforting to know that I am not alone in this battle. Those who don't have migraines don't understand that just because there is no big, rich foundation or that celebrities do not announce they are donating millions of dollars to the research of migraines that it is a real condition/disease. I wish everyone pain free days and restful nights. LaDonna |

LaDonna,
Welcome to the forum. There is so much to read and learn here. This is a great place to start. Take your time and ask for support when you need it. You are absolutely not alone. I'm sorry to hear that your daughter also seems to be showing symptoms of migraine. That's so hard. Are you seeing a specialist? Do you keep a track of your migraines and possible triggers? I'm sure others will be along soon. I just wanted to welcome you and help you get settled. See you around- Liz |

Hello, LaDonna, welcome to the forum. We're glad you found us.
Never apologize for a long post on the forum. It is helpful, however, if you keep your paragraphs short. It makes it easier on people who are reading during an active migraine. I think we all feel at some point as though we've already tried at least half the drugstore. However, the reality is there are many, many options: Migraine Preventive Medications - Too Many Options To Give Up! If your doctor is out of ideas, it's probably time to seek out a migraine specialist: Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists Take care, and I hope to see you on the forum often. |

Welcome to the forum family LaDonna
I'm so happy you found us although I'm sorry you have the need to be here. You've come to the right place for accurate information and a fantastic support system. Everyone here is kind and caring and we all understand what you're going through. To help you begin, take a look at this article: Learning About Migraines-Were to Start Liz mentioned tracking your migraines. A valuable tool to do this is a migraine diary. You can use it to track your triggers, check how well your medications are working and note any patterns to your migraines. If you don't mind, let me also recommend a book written by Teri Robert called Living Well With Migraine Disease and Headaches, my copy is well used and I refer to it often. Again, a warm welcome and if you have any questions, please just ask away Laura Forum Moderator ***You're welcome to enter your birthday, etc in the Celebrate folder so we can party with you!! =) *** |

I am going to start making this community one I visit everyday.I know I wrote this before but I am so excited to have found this site. I am sure there is information here that I have not had access to and maybe I have some helpful info. that others could use. I have stated that my mother has migraines but my grandmother did also. We lived in the "country" and I have used some rememdies as my grandmother would call them. Let us hope for a pain free day and a restful night! LaDonna |

Hi LaDonna! Let me add my welcome to the pile!
I know how you feel about the guilt of passing on migraine disease on to your child. I have passed it on to my son (now 9) as well. on this forum there is a section for children with migraines. There are several of us who have children with migraines, as well as migraines ourselves. Its hard to watch your child suffer, but there is hope! The more informed you are, the better you can help your child. There are wonderful pediactric migraine specialests too. I am so glad you have the support of your husband! And that you have found us. I have found so much comfort and support here too! Welcome again! Tawsha |

Hi LaDonna -
So glad you found us. It makes a huge difference having a place like this to come to! I could relate to your feelings about heredity and your daughter; I used to feel quite guilty also. But remember that we didn't ask for our genes, either! My daughter and I have a running joke (she's 17) - she'll complain about something she inherited from me and I always say, "Yes, it's part of your lousy heredity, along with good looks & intelligence!"
