well i guess i will start from the beginning, about 7 weeks ago I was the hospital with a nasty virus that caused havoc on my body. After 8 days and a cat scan, mri/mra, spinal tap, 4 chest xrays, took blood at least 10 times, and a round of steroids the doctors came up with nothing. For the last 7 weeks I have not had any relief from the migriane since it started. I'm on Fioricet, Topamax for my head, and skelaxin for my back and neck( the doctors are not sure if i'm getting the back and neck pain from the migrianes or it is something else.) Oh also my ear have been plugged since then too. If anyone has any suggestions or want to ask more questions, feel free to ask because there is much more to my story I just gave the cliff notes version.

Hi rotz!

Welcome to the forum!

Sorry you are going through so much!

The only thing I can come up with is the Fioricet...how often are you taking it? Is it possible you are in rebound aka Medication Overuse Headache? The Skelaxin wouldn't cause it, but the Fioricet could. If you are taking it more then 3 times a week....that could be the cause, possibly?

Also I've heard of people getting a headache after a spinal tap, but I've never heard of it lasting that long.

That is all I have for now, I'm sure others will be on to throw in some other possible ideas or suggestions. I would think the Fioricet if you are taking it too often....

If you have had a migraine for what you state is 7 weeks, you need medical attention. Your doctor should be doing something for you. If you have not had any breaks in pain in over 72 hours, not including sleep, you are in Status Migrainous - a headache lasting more then 72 hours with less then 4 hour breaks in pain. If this is true, you need to break that migraine, and now. Please click the link to get info and please seek help ASAP if the description fits you.

Please keep us posted, ok?

Welcome again.

I'm concerned about the topamax, I take 50 mg in the morning and 50 at night. As far the migaine is concerned, I guess you can down grade it to a headache but it still has lasted this long and its really affecting my life. I missed 6 weeks of work all ready, and I dont want to miss any more. Every morning I wake up with a dull pain and as the day goes on the pain gets more intense, this is even worse when I have to go to work, granted I have only worked 2 days so far. Also I'm thinking about trying acupuncure (spellling is off,) what do you guys think?

How long have you been taking that dosage of Topamax? If you've given it a three-month trial, and it's not helping, it might well be time to talk to your doctor about tapering off it and trying something else.

You said you "guess you can downgrade it to a headache." Not really. Migraines and headaches are not the same. Are you having symptoms other than headache?

How's your sleep? When people wake with headaches or Migraines, it's often that they're getting too much, too little, disrupted, or poor quality sleep.

Just a few thoughts for you.

The generally long periods of time between my Migraines are the result of working with a Migraine specialist to refine my preventive regimen. You can see my current regimen HERE.

Hi Rotz, we have quite a number of threads in our Complementary Therapies folder about acupuncture. You can find the most recent one HERE. Take a look at that and see what you think, ok?

Let us know how else we can help you.

Welcome to the forum family Rotz!

As you can already see, you have come to a fantastic place for information and support. Smiler

Does your doctor have you keep a migraine diary? It is very helpful to track how much medication you take, help identify triggers and to identify patterns to your headache/migraine.

I'm going to echo what everyone has already said because it is so very important, please get that headache/migraine aborted. Group Hug

I look forward to seeing you around the forum and to hearing how you are feeling.
