Hi. I've been living with migraines (w/o auras) & headaches since age 5. I'm 45 now and have been dealing with vertigo issues for the past 6 years or so.

The migraines aren't as intense now as they were when I was younger but I tend to get frequent tension-like headaches and still the occasional migraine. The vertigo doesn't always accompany a headache. I feel that the vertigo is harder to contend with than the pain of the headaches as it can last for weeks or months at a time.

Over the years, I've seen various GP's, a neurologist, an audiologist and an ENT seeking help with the vertigo. So far with little success. (I should mention that I lost most of the central vision in one eye about 9 years ago due to an eye disease.) For a long time I attributed the visual disturbance as the cause of my vertigo, but I began to notice the episodic nature of it and that certain things seemed to trigger it. The neurologist suggested MAV. The audiologist thinks it's BPPV. I felt the ENT simply didn't know & handed me a prescription for Antivert...

I justed to say how happy I am to have found this site. It's like I stumbled upon a treasure trove of information and knowing there are others like me is comforting.

Hello Pat and welcome to our forum family! Our goal is to provide everyone with the information and support that we all need to manage our Migraines and/or headaches. To that end, we consider this a “safe harbor,” where nobody tries to sell us anything, and we all use “family-friendly” language so parents are comfortable letting their children read the forum with them.

Please take a few minutes to review our policies and guidelines along with the other information in the START HERE folder. For information about Migraines, a good article to begin with is Learning About Migraines - Where to Start.

I'm so glad you found us! You'll find we're a friendly group and we're here to educate and support each other. I've got Migraine Without Aura too, sometimes to mix things up, my brain will throw in an aura but not very often. If I get an aura it's usually the smell of something burning or it sounds like a television is on somewhere. Let me get you started with some articles to take a look at:

• Migraine Without Aura - the Basics

• Tension-Type Headaches - the Basics

I know others have also had to deal with vertigo and hopefully they'll be along shortly to share their stories with you.

Welcome again and if you have any questions, just ask and we'll do our best to help Smiler

Add a droolie hello and Group Hug smoosh to your pile. I think this is a great treasure trove, too. It took me all of a nanosecond to get addicted to the forum and the forum family when I found it. I'm still here almost nine years later. Smiler

Thanks again to all of you for your welcoming words. Smiler Reading though the posts has really motivated me to take the upper-hand again. Started taking my Magnesium & CoQ10 regularly (I'm terrible about taking pills on a schedule!) and I'm actually feeling better. I've resolved myself to keep at it!

Laura, I think I have the auditory aura sometimes too. I just always thought of migraine aura as being strictly visual. I'll have a few seconds occasionally when I think someone left the tv on only to discover it's not and there's no one around talking. I never gave it much thought as possibly being migraine related.

Good for you, Patricia! Smiler Smiler Smiler Smiler Smiler Smiler Smiler A seven-smiley salute for your resolve!

As for the aura, any of the senses can be involved. There's visual, auditory, olfactory (smell), gustatory (taste), and I'd bet the touch one would be "tactile" if I went searching.
