Hi I am new to migraines. I was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis 7/09.TM is an autoimmune disease in which the body attacks the spinal cord. It causes numerous neurological symptoms. It is like a one time attack of MS.But unlike MS it is not progressive. But I actually got TM back in 1/09. Since then I have started to get complicated migraines with aura. I had never had migraines before in my life. I also have had a recent abnormal MRI that showed 15 spots on my brain. The mri was done a few days after my last migraine and it was brutal. I have not really been right since and it was back in late July. The spots are not typical of MS. One of the issues of having TM is that it greatly increases the chance of getting MS.I have had Evoked Potential tests and they ruled out demyelinating disease. The neuro said it looked at though I had 15 ministrokes. But I have no risk factors for stroke. I'm 35yrs,5'3,120lbs and I eat very healthy. The doc is very confused about my situation. Take Care.....

Oh, Renee, my heart goes out to you! Let me welcome you to our forum family! Our goal is to provide everyone with the information and support that we all need to manage our Migraines and/or headaches. To that end, we consider this a “safe harbor,” where nobody tries to sell us anything, and we all use “family-friendly” language so parents are comfortable letting their children read the forum with them.

Please take a few minutes to review our policies and guidelines along with the other information in the START HERE folder. For information about Migraines, a good article to begin with is Learning About Migraines - Where to Start.

I'm so sorry to hear about all the things that you are going through. I'm glad you found this site because here, you'll find that we're a friendly group of folk who can relate to you and your Migraines. First, let me get you started with some information about your particular type of Migraine:

• Migraine With Aura - the Basics

How often do you get Migraines? If you're getting them more than three times a month, you should talk to your doctor about seeing if they'll allow you to start some type of preventive medications to help lessen the attacks:

• Migraine preventive medications: too many options to give up!

You mentioned having lesions show up on your MRI so I think you'll find this article examining the connection between Migraine disease, brain lesions, cerebral infarction (stroke), and the frequency of migraine attacks interest:

• Is Migraine a Progressive Brain Disease?

You may also want to look into finding a Migraine Specialist to help you with your unique case:

• What Can a Migraine Specialist Do for You? - Video

Okay, I don't want to overwhelm you with to many articles in one post! Welcome again and if you have any questions, just ask, we'll do our best to help. I look forward to seeing more of you around the forum. Smiler

Hi, Renee! Smiler

I'm so sorry you have had to go through all this complicated ick, but I'm really glad you found us. We may not be able to directly relate to the Transverse Myelitis you've got, but we can very much relate to the migraines. Quite a few of us have had migraine suddenly pop up and go rampant on the heels of another kind of ick settling in.

Laura's loaded you up with links. So as not to overwhelm you, I'm not going to post any more at this time, but if you're looking around for something you can't seem to find, but think should be here, we'll be happy to help you scrounge up the appropriate links, if we have them.

Again, welcome, and big, huge Group Hug!
