Hi there,
I just found this group; I'm very happy to be here. Wish it was for a different reason, though!
I'm a 49-year-old, happily married woman, and I've had migraines for the past 25 years. I also have panic disorder w/agoraphobia, so I do have a lot of stress in my life. I don't work outside of my home, and I have a wonderful, VERY understanding husband and family, who are incredibly supportive of me and my health problems.
Through this group, I'm hoping to learn more than I already know about migraines, meet some other people who really know what it's like to live with them, and maybe even help someone else.
Looking forward to participating in the group, and "meeting" everyone else. Thanks for having me,
Karenzkritterz

Hi Karen and welcome to our forum family! Our goal is to provide everyone with the information and support that we all need to manage our Migraines and/or headaches. To that end, we consider this a “safe harbor,” where nobody tries to sell us anything, and we all use “family-friendly” language so parents are comfortable letting their children read the forum with them.

Please take a few minutes to review our policies and guidelines along with the other information in the START HERE folder. For information about Migraines, a good article to begin with is Learning About Migraines - Where to Start.

We're so glad you found us too! You're going to be truly amazed at all the information you'll find here. And, please don't be shy, if you see something you don't understand or have a question, just ask, that's what we're here for, to help you out Smiler

I've also had Migraines for 25 years. Ugh, I hate to say that, it reminds me how old I am LOL. What type of Migraine do you have? You can take a look at this article and see which description "fits" you best:

• Types of Migraines and Headaches

Welcome again! Let us know if we can be of any help, okay?

If you don't mind me asking, where exactly is Jennings? I used to live in Shreveport a few years ago. I miss the food but not the heat Wink

Thank you, everyone, for such a warm welcome! I've had a really busy schedule since I joined, and haven't had a chance to look through the whole site, but things are settling down over here, and I hope to soon. I did want to thank you for the welcome, though, and give you a bit of info I found out.
On the list of doctors in Louisiana, a Dr. Richard Gold is listed in Baton Rouge. I called the number to make an appointment, and found out that Dr. Gold retired 7 years ago. The correct info is now:

Louisiana Neurologic Consultants
338 Summa Suite 500
Baton Rouge, LA
Dr. is Dr. Kaufman
Office is located on the corner of Summa and Blair, and is closed on Fridays

So I made an appointment, and they're able to take me on November 10! I was really surprised that I could get in that early. I'm going to have to start from scratch as far as CAT Scans, MRIs, bloodwork, anything like that, as the last time I had it done (exactly 1 year ago), I had the scan and other tests for gall bladder and esophageal surgery, so those won't be of much help. As strange as it sounds, I'm really looking forward to it. I'm so hoping that this Dr. can give me some relief, or even just some answers. If anyone has anything they want me to ask while I'm there, let me know, ok? I'll ask him and post his answers as soon as I get back.

Cindy, congratulations on your new baby!! Boy, or girl?? Did your migraines get better or worse during the pregnancy? My very first migraine was during my pregnancy with my daughter, who is now 30. I lost vision in one eye, then got a crippling migraine; my doctor put me in the hospital because he didn't want to take any chances that it was an impending stroke or something. And because I was pregnant, no pain meds for me. What a treat. LOL I hope you're not suffering too much from the migraines to be able to enjoy the baby. 3 months is such a fun age.

Laura, Jennings is right halfway between Lafayette and Lake Charles, right off Interstate 10. It's a 4-hour drive to Shreveport. We have some really good friends that live there, in Haughton, actually. They show and breed Shelties, and we got our first Sheltie from them, and have remained good friends with them since, and that was over 10 years ago. We were just there about a month ago. It's a small world, isn't it?? *G* I don't know how long you've been gone, but the summers are getting worse every year, so believe me, you're better off where you are! Louisiana is an armpit in the summertime, hot, muggy, and sometimes really smelly. *G* I hope you're somewhere now where you get nice, long autumns (my favorite season) and mild summers.

Thanks again for the welcome; I hope to be more active on the board in the next few days.
Karen

Karen,

I'm so excited for you, getting in so soon is fantastic news! Let me give you some articles to take a look at before you head down there:

• Migraineur's Guide To a Successful Doctor's Appointment

• Coping With Busy Doctors

One thing I like to do to prepare for a doctor's appointment is write down all my questions, otherwise I'll end up forgetting something until I'm on way home Roll Eyes

My brother used to live in Haughton (Tall Timbers) when he was stationed at Barksdale AFB. Very small world indeed. I left LA three years ago and that was the one thing I couldn't stand, the summer..ick! You know it's hot outside when it's to hot to swim in your pool water. Of course, I wasn't a big fan of the tornadoes either LOL

Good luck at the doctor, be sure to keep us posted okay?

Thanks for the doctor update, Karen! I'll be removing that listing from our directory. We only list doctors there when we've had positive feedback from patients. If you don't mind, please drop me an email when you have an idea of whether you think this doctor should be recommended? My email addy is below in my signature.
