I have had migraines since childhood. In December I had started with hemiplegic migraines, very scary. Left sided weakness, paralysis, visual deficits, multiple medication changes. Still at it and not giving up! Hope everyone has a great evening!!

Hello, Wendy, welcome to the forum. We're glad you found us.

Here's some info on hemiplegic migraines to get you started. We have several members with hemiplegic migraines, and I'm sure they will be by to share their experiences.

Hemiplegic Migraine - The Basics

Do you see a doctor who is a migraine specialist? If you have hemiplegic migraines, it is really important to seek out a migraine specialist. Many other doctors may never have seen another case of it. See this list:

Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists

We're looking forward to seeing you around the forum.

Welcome to the forum family Wendy, I'm so glad you found us Flower

I'm sorry you have to be here but you've found a great place for information and support. Here's an article to help get you started:

Learning about migraines-Where to Start

I agree with Nut, if you aren't already seeing a migraine specialist you should because they will be able to give you the help you need specific to Hemiplegic Migraine.

Again, welcome to the forum and if you have any questions, just ask Smiler

Hi Wendy! So glad you found us here! Flower
Hemiplegic migraines are very scary, and hard to live with. I have found this forum so very helpful and comforting through all my migraines, both regular ones and my Hemiplegic ones!

I too have been through many med changes trying to find the right one. So far the Depakote has been the best one for me. The side effects so far are tollerable, and helps a LOT with both the daily migraines and the hemiplegic ones. In time you too will find one that works for you! Never give up!

Anyway, great to have you here!

Hi Wendy!

Welcome! I have hemiplegic migraine too (for 9 years) - you'll see some of us around. I find we're often the ones swapping weird aura stories...

Glad you found us. Nose around. I'm doing a major medication change right now, still looking for better control, so I feel your pain, so to speak! Medication trials feel so slow sometimes, but it's the only way to deal with all this.

Hang in there with finding that treatment! It's still early days if you just started with the hemiplegia attacks, so you have lots of options out there and I'm sure you'll find good ones if you are persistent.

Hemiplegia attacks are scary and weird and unnerving and hard to live with and hard to treat and all that ... please know that you're not the only one living with them. And that it's possible to live with them.

Good to hear from you. Best of luck. Hang in!

Lynne (of the blurred vision and slightly wonky left hand today)
