Hi All I am ner here. Was just recently diagnosed with migranes. I am having issues with my inusrance company. They do not want to pay for the medication the doctor prescribed for me. I also can not pay the $180. the pharmacy wants for the 3 week prescription. The doctor gave me a script this past Friday. Her office is normally closed on Fridays. I called back and left a message for them to call back. Now it is Sunday and I have a horrible migrane. Is there anything that anyone can suggest to help until the doctors office opens tomorrow and we can get the insurance to agree to pay for at least part of the medication. This also is my daughters birthday and her Dad is very sick with influenza. So I am stuck staying up with her while he tries to get better. Any help would be appreciated. LisaS

Lisa,
Welcome. Glad you found us, sorry you had to. It's kind of slow here on weekends, but one of the hosts will be along shortly. In the mean time, unfortunately, I'm not a doctor so can't really tell you what you should do. The hosts often say that if it gets really bad, go to the emergency room, because it might need to be treated to avoid worse problems. Also, I would call your doctor a second time and leave a message to say your migraine is worse. It's her job to take care of you. Don't worry about bothering her on the weekends. Your health is the most important thing. The only home remedy I can suggest you probably already know about: ice. If you fill a plastic bag with ice cubes and lie down with it on your forehead or under the back of your neck, it might help. I know it helps me. A bag of frozen peas works too. Stay as quiet as possible, keep the lights and the noise as low as possible. Take a nap if you can. Happy birthday to your daughter and hope your husband gets well soon. Feel better and know you're not alone. LauraSue. (I'm 54, have had severe migraines for over 4 years due to menopause, plus I have fibromyalgia. I take Imitrex plus Anaprox as an abortive and am working with my migraine specialist to find a preventive. I keep a detailed migraine diary and have made significant lifestyle changes to reduce my risk of migraines.) MENOPAUSE COUNTDOWN: |

Lisa,
I'm sorry you and your family are having such a rotten day! I'm also sorry for the reason, but glad you found us. We're pretty good at holding each other up. I hope by now you've called your doctor back, & she's called you back & all is much better with you and yours. If she gives you any grief, just remember who's paying whom. Hope tomorrow goes much better for you and your family. Rebecca |

Lisa--
I'm sorry to be so late in responding to you, but I just got home from work. I hope you took your prescription to a pharmacy with extended hours. I'm a pharmacist. If the pharmacy is open, call and ask to speak to the pharmacist. Explain the problem. I don't know what the medication is obviously so I can't guarantee this will work (and of course I don't know your pharmacy or pharmacist), but often we can dispense a much smaller, more affordable emergency amount that you can afford to pay for to tide you over until we can get the insurance issue cleared up. I know I always try to do this in a situation such as yours if it is at all possible! I hope this helps. Tracie |

Hi Lisa,
Welcome to MyMigraineConnection. Usually doctors have someone oncall for them, has the doctor returned your call yet? If not, and you are still in pain, go ahead and call again and explain to the on-call triage how much pain you are in and need immediate relief. How long have you had this Migraine? Any time we have Migraine pain lasting longer than 72 hours without a four-hour pain-free break while awake, may be a condition called Status Migrainous which needs medical attention. Click HERE for more information. I hope you are feeling better, please let us know, ok? |

Thanks everyone for the responses. I just called the doctors office again. They are going to hopefully call back soon once they have figured out what is going on. Yesterday did get better but it is just such a pain that our insurance company is being difficult. They have always paid at least part of the cost for my prescriptions before.Lisa

Welcome Lisa! I'm glad you've found us!
I'm sorry you were having such a rough day yesterday but I'm glad you're doing better now. Good job on following up with your doctor, please let us know how it goes. This may be a little late but many of us have to find other ways to deal with our pain when we don't have our medication or we have reached our limit. We have our own little toolboxes that we use to help us deal with our pain. Hopefully, you won't need it but just in case. One more fantastic article I'd like you to take a look at is: Migraines-Where to Start If you have any questions, just ask away! Welcome again Laura Forum Moderator ***You're welcome to enter your birthday, etc in the Celebrate folder so we can party with you!! =) *** |
