Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum but not the disease unfortunately. I am 30 years old and I have 2 and 3 year old daughters, suffer from Migraines at least 5 times a month, chronic daily headaches, severe depression with a touch of anxiety and oh yeah, I just recently got diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Phew, that's a mouthful.

Most of the time I try not to let it get me down, but as you can imagine, it does sometimes. I just feel so helpless sometimes and I can't even take care of my children or my home. Thank goodness my husband has a job that provides for us and even though money and the budget is tight, we are able to survive on his income. So I have so many many things to be thankful for and yet the depression just takes over some days.

I am really looking for a great support group that understands what I am going through and truly gets it. I have a sister in law that totally overuses the word "migraine" any time she just doesn't want to go to work and for some reason my family sympathizes with her, but she doesn't get nauseous or throw up, her head doesn't pound, she doesn't get any kind of aura. In other words, its not a migraine she just wants the attention so she doesn't have to go to work. In my case, its "oh you have ANOTHER migraine, get over it already you should be used to them by mow." I try to explain it doesn't work like that. They also tell me that my sister in law doesn't have to go to the ER when she gets her migraines so I must be the one faking for attention. Its all very frustrating and adds to the depression and anxiety which in turn brings on another migraine and its all just this vicious cycle as you can imagine.

OK enough blabbing from me, that's my story. Hopefully I can find some people like me to relate to and talk to. Some friends that truly understand!

Welcome Craftymommy!

I'm glad you found us. We're definitely a great support group. I'm sorry your family doesn't understand what you're going through, and your sister in law uses migraines as an excuse when she doesn't suffer the way you do. I'm sure the girls will come alone with lots of good links for you to read, they're better at adding them than I am, lol.

Feel free to babble whenever you want, that's what we're here for.

Hello and welcome to our forum family, Craftymommy! Our goal is to provide everyone with the information and support that we all need to manage our Migraines and/or headaches. To that end, we consider this a “safe harbor,” where nobody tries to sell us anything, and we all use “family-friendly” language so parents are comfortable letting their children read the forum with them.

Please take a few minutes to review our policies and guidelines along with the other information in the START HERE folder. For information about Migraines, a good article to begin with is Learning About Migraines - Where to Start

Group Hug Smooshes to you! We're glad you found us!

A lot of us have what I like to call "multiple chronic ick". It's short and sweet, and says a lot without having to go through the whole list at once. There are quite a few of us with fibro, and we all know how tricky it can be when the migraines and the fibro decide to play together. We all know how tedious and wearing that can be. For some people, depression does like to come along for the ride.

Here's a nice little article on Chronic Daily Headache that you might be interested in.

It sounds like you've got a supportive husband, which is indeed a blessing. For the others in your family that don't get it, there's an article HERE on migraine and headache education that you might find helpful. It's too bad your sister-in-law's experience, whether it truly is migraine or is just attention-seeking behavior, has been allowed to cloud other family members' judgment. Every migraineur has their own unique experience with this disease. Some of us have more severe issues. There's such variation involved that it's unfair to compare one person to another. It's also pointless to compare individuals, and I think life would be so much easier if everyone understood that, and accepted migraineurs on an individual basis.

At any rate, settle in and get comfy. If there's particular info you're having trouble locating, just post away and we'll do our best to help out.

Hi craftymommy and welcome to the site! It's great to have you here. You've found a great place for support and for information so dive right in Smiler

Are you seeing a neurologist for your Migraines? I ask because you're having more than three Migraines per month and when that happens, it's usually time to start some type of preventive medications. Take a look at this article:

• Migraine preventive medications: too many options to give up!

I see a local neuro and I also see a Migraine Specialist in Dallas. You've got one in your state too, I believe.

What type of Migraines do you have? Mine are Migraine without Aura. It's important to find the correct diagnosis. You can take a look at this article and see which one best "fits" you:

• Types of Migraines and Headaches

• The Type of Migraine Does Matter

I hope I didn't overwhelm you with to many articles, I just wanted to give you a good start.

Welcome again and if you have any questions, just ask, we're here to help.
