I am new to this forum, but a long time migraine sufferer. I have also been treated for depression and diagnosed with PTSD (that's relatively new). I've learned that my migraines are triggered by a number of things which can be identified such as the weather, wine, lack of sleep, and hormonal changes. There are others I'm sure but have not nailed them down. I've tried numerous migraine medications and preventives but have not found an effective treatment. I find that yoga breathing exercises and practice can help relieve the pain but not cure. For me, it's about living with the migraines right now until I can find better preventive treatments. I just retired from the military and would be interested in learning more about how PTSD affects migraines.

Hello and welcome to our forum family! Our goal is to provide everyone with the information and support that we all need to manage our Migraines and/or headaches. To that end, we consider this a “safe harbor,” where nobody tries to sell us anything, and we all use “family-friendly” language so parents are comfortable letting their children read the forum with them.

Please take a few minutes to review our policies and guidelines along with the other information in the START HERE folder. For information about Migraines, a good article to begin with is Learning About Migraines - Where to Start.

First, let me start by saying "Thank You" for your service...what branch? My DH will be retiring next summer and we just attended TAP yesterday.

Military Members with Migraine disease are more than twice as likely to have symptoms of depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder as soldiers without Migraines. Take a look at this article for more information:

• Half of Iraq Veterans with Migraines Also Have Depression

I know that it may feel like you've tried every preventive medication out there, but there are over 100 of them being used to prevent Migraines. You can print out this list and go over it with your doctor:

• Migraine preventive medications: too many options to give up!

I also trigger from the weather and poor sleep, along with not eating and some strong smells. Lately, cleaning products have been awful for me! Here's some information on triggers too:

• Common Migraine Triggers

Have you tried keeping a Migraine Diary? It will be useful to track triggers, the effectiveness of medications, and any patterns to your Migraines and headaches.

Okay, I think I've given you enough to read for one post LOL. Welcome again! I look forward to seeing you around the forum and remember if you have any questions, just ask, we're here to help Smiler
