Hi everyone! I'm so glad I found this site. I have had migraines on and off since I was a child. I'm just now understanding that they were indeed migraines.

I first went to my doctor about an awful episode I had when I was 28. After I told her my symptoms she told me that I had had a migraine. She took my blood and discovered that I was anemic. So after some iron pills and Maxalt I felt better. The Maxalt did leave me feeling very wiped out and hung over. The migraines did decrease, and I was just fine.

Now I'm 35 and since about December I've been having them about two times a month. They seem to be increasing in severity. I never use to feel nauseated, now I am and my last one I actually threw up. I also have noticed that they day before the migraine I don't feel right. I feel a bit fuzzy and I have a strange achy sensation behind my eyes.

Another new thing is that I can't think of the right word when I go to speak. I stop and try to figure out what word to say. Also I told my husband that "I'd like to go to the salad." when I meant to say, "I'd like to go to the store." I also felt very manic several days before this last one. I've got an appointment with my doctor on Monday and I'm planning on seeing the specialist Dr. Carol Foster.

My triggers seem to be related to lack of sleep, perfume smells, bright hot sunlight, missing meals, and probably some foods that I don't even know about.

Thanks for everyone sharing their knowledge and experiences. I'm learning a lot!

Hi Meowcat -
Welcome! Love your screen-name.

I'm like you - Migraines increased in my mid to late 30's. This seems to be true for a lot of women. It's great that you're scheduled for a specialist appointment. Make sure you've got all your questions written out so you can get the most out of it!

I'll see you around the forum!

- Megs

Hi Meowcat--

Welcome to the forum. You'll find a wealth of information here. One of the masters will probably be along soon to give you some great links. Sounds like you're approaching your migraines in the right way. As I think you realize, the best thing you can do for yourself is be as knowledgable as you can. With migraines, it's important that you become a team member with your doctor.

Once again welcome

Tracie

Welcome Meowcat!

Check over the link that MJ gave you.

I don't know if you know yet, but that feeling you get before a migraine, that's called prodrome. Sometimes, knowing your prodrome symptoms can really help you stop an attack before it starts.

I have similar things happen to me when I migraine. Nausea, vomitting, I say things that are all flip floppy or incorrect. What a wonderful disease huh? LOL

Glad you are here! And glad to hear you are going to a migraine specialist soon!!! Please keep us posted on that!

Welcome again!!

Oh and just for the record.....I have 5 cats, I think I hold the record on the forum here! LOL - plus my husband and I work/volunteer at an animal shelter on weekends, so the number may go up at any time!!! Smiler

See ya around!

Hello and welcome! As someone who is owned by two cats, I have to love your ID. Big Wink

Some of the symptoms you describe sound very, very familiar. The symptoms you're describing from the day before the Migraine may well be prodrome, the first of four possible phases of a Migraine attack. Having issues finding and using the right words is called aphasia. I think you'll find helpful info in our article, Anatomy of a Migraine.

Here's one of my owners...

Welcome again!

Welcome to the forum family Meowcat! I'm so glad you found us Flower

You and I have a lot in common. My migraines increased when I hit my mid-thirties too. Just like you, I'm also triggered by lack of sleep, certain smells and missing meals. Weather fronts can trigger a migraine for me too.

You can learn more about food triggers here:

Again, a warm welcome to the forum!
