I have never posted on a migraine forum before...So this is a first.

My first migraine occurred at age 7. I still remember the excitement of a field trip to the zoo, the too bright sun and the smell that seemed overwhelming. Then the terrifying pain and nausea. I had no idea that my childhood would be held hostage from that day on.

In the 1970's conventional wisdom was children did not suffer from migraines. Mom took me to doctor after doctor and was told I did not wish to go to school. Tylenol and sleep was the only help I had.

In high school we had soda machines. Thank God for Dr Pepper. By then I had learn to self medicate before the pain took over.

By my 20's I could control the headaches for the most part. But twice in my 30's, I have cycle into having 10-15 migraines per month.
With medication the cycle were eventually broken.

Now I stay at home with my 79 year old Parkinson's afflicted mother. The stress has been getting worse and the headaches more frequent.
But at least now I know there is medication that can help but have no insurance so will wait until nothing else helps.

I am glad at found this forum I can try solutions and tips from others.

Hi AmyBeth and welcome to the forum family! I'm happy you've found us Flower

My migraines started when I was 15 and I'm now 38. After I hit 35 they increased. Thankfully, in January I started seeing a migraine specialist and my migraines have gotten less severe and don't last as long.

I also keep a migraine diary to help track my triggers, medications and any possible patterns to the migraine. This helps my doctor and keeps me from possible medication overuse headache.

I'm going to give you one more link that I think you will find useful:

Migraines-Where to Start

I hope I didn't overwhelm you with links, I just want to give you a good start. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Welcome again! Smiler

Hi AmyBeth,

Welcome to our family! I'm sure glad you found us! We've got a lot of terrific info here--and MANY wonderful people, too! Smiler

Unfortunately, many of our members developed their migraine disease when they were quite young...I'm a chronic migraine with aura sufferer, and I've got a 5-year-old son who was recently diagnosed with migraine disease, too.

Anyway, you've found a nice place here!

Please let us know if we can help you with any questions--or if you just feel like chatting!
