Teri and Nancy told me about this forum site as well, so I changed my nick name a bit and signed in here too. I have and have read Teri's book too.
Briefest history: started age 7-8, diagnosed age 35, now almost 50; both parents, now in mid 70's, have migraines to this day, all siblings do not have as often or as severely (thank goodness); on daily cocktail of AMA preventatives that covers the array of issues and herbal/natural supplements; currently on "IV Treatment of Refractory Migraines" which does not allow any abortives or pain meds. I hope to learn more than just to reread what I've already read or go back to try what I've already been through. All through college, I did all the natural treatments, complete herbal supplements, acupuncture, chiropractic, yoga, special diets; tested for allergies, food, dust, pollens, animals, etc; did nothing more than minimal Excedrin for many many years for pain relief. I did not see a doctor for my sick headaches until my husband insisted. I have had times or waves when the migraines have been more than twice a week for more than two days at a time, which is where I am now. I told this neurologist that when my previous neurologist took me off pain meds back then, it didn't change the frequency or severity of the migraines then either. They don't listen. So I hope to learn something here to take to him. |

Hi Twyxtz! Welcome to the forum
Im sure you will find lots of info on this site! I have learned so much here, as well as found lots of comfort. Hereis a link to a page about medications to treat migraines. There are so many to help! I would hope that your neurologest has you on a preventative at this point, as you have such frequent migraines. most neurologests may not be familiar with all the migraine info out there. you can find a list of recommended migraine specialests Here. if your neuro just isnt working out. one more link for now, I promise! Here is a link for a succesful doctors visit. Hope this helps, and welcome again! Tawsha |

Welcome to the forum family twyxtz
I'm so glad you found us (Thanks Teri and Nancy!) You've already been given some great links so I'll give you one of my favorites to help you begin: Learning About Migraines-Where to Start I was just like you not to long ago. I had a migraine every three or four days and I would be laid out in agony for two or three days at a time. In January I decided to see a migraine specialist and I already see a drastic difference in my migraines. I now get at least five or six days in between migraines, they aren't as severe and they don't last as long. So there is hope out there! Again, a warm welcome and if you have any questions, just ask away! I look forward to seeing you around the forum. Wow, thank you everyone for the warm welcome.
I've been feeling very alone lately, mostly because of the tremendous amount of pain I've been in. I'm doing everything I can to stick with the "IV" program required by this specialist, but I have not seen any improvement and even the nurses who administer it are concerned. When its as bad as its been, I'm ashamed to say where my thoughts turn. I saw my regular doctor today and she is going to call the specialist and see what he suggests, but so far we are keeping up the "IV" treatments for another month. I haven't seen the co-pay yet, but it can't be cheap and I haven't received any disability from my work, and just lost my job because I've been off work so long. So we'll have to see where this all goes. I'll do my best not to whine. Thanks again. twyxtz |
