Couldn't access the 'Discussion Board', so posting here.

I'd like information about the side-effect of Celexa preventing ejaculation.

I have mild ED anyway, on top of achieving orgasm having ALWAYS been difficult to VERY difficult all my adult life.

So, even with Cialis, Viagra, or Levitra, while on Celexa (actually the generic Citalopram) it is IMPOSSIBLE for me to reach orgasm.

This is a problem in that I started Celexa last year and was on for a few weeks and quit because of this (after all, how long can I go with NO release.. I know it's not a big deal for some, but it is for me and my wife... it IS a big deal).

Will this side-effect diminish over time the longer I'm on this? Or is this likely a permanent side-effect?

Is there anything that can offset this problem while on Celexa? As far as I know, the only suitable psych med without this side-effect is Wellbutrin, and I was on that for over a year. Works, kinds, but not well enough for any significant help in that arena.

Anyone? Ideas, suggestions? and how do I get this question to the/a Doctor here?

Thanks,
Carl

TC&E,
Carl

There's a new herbal formula called VolumePills that is supposed to treat ED. You can learn more about it at http://www.erectiledysfunction.vg

Hi Carl,

The incidents of ejaculatory dysfunction using Celexa is so well known that many physicians prescribe the drug to treat premature ejaculation. The same is true for the "next generation" Lexapro.

Unfortunatly, the answer to your question is no, it is not a side effect that will diminish or go away with time.

If you are suffering from depression and looking for a remedy that will not cause side effects you may want to check out various non-drug options.

One option is changing, probably radically, your diet for a period of time. Many people who experience depression have successfully beat it by doing such things as replacing their normal diet with fresh juiced vegetables and fruits.

Carrots, beats, oranges, papayas, etc. all are extremely high in nutrients and especially when combined with (juiced) greens such as celery, brocolli, kale, and so forth provide huge amounts of antioxidants - carotenes - anutrients that promote overall better health and have been used by many to reverse depression.

You might want to check out "The Complete Book Of Juicing" by Michael T Murphy for detailed information. Probably available to be checked out from your library and for sure is available on amazon.com.

Good Luck.

R.

ED is a very common side effect of antidepressants. Once the drug is stopped, sexual functioning comes back to normal.

There are several methods for management of SSRIs-induced sexual dysfunction. One method is to reduce the current antidepressant dose while maintaining the medication at a therapeutic level. Drug holidays can be useful in some people who are compliant and don’t have significant problems with discontinuation. In general, adjunctive pharmacotherapy with stimulants can be extremely helpful. Switching to treatment with an antidepressant medication that is associated with a low incidence of sexual side effects should also be considered.
