Do you have any pain or symptoms from drinking so much diet soda? That stuff makes me sick, I can't drink it. I actually lost more wieght by drinking plenty of water and eating fresh whole organic foods than eating and drinking all that diet junk. I used to eat all that stuff and I was huge! p.s. Does anyone ever post on these boards?

Do you ever wonder why they sell millions and millions of gallons of diet soda and we are collectively still getting bigger and bigger?!

My take on it is this:

1. Drinking diet soda is a bazillion-gajillion (yes, it's a word) times better for you than drinking regular soda, especially if you have more than one in a day. Regular soda has way too many empty calories. I know a couple of folks who have lost big-time weight just by switching to diet soda. However, they previously drank at least a liter of regular soda each day!

2. Drinking water is still better. I'm not a 8 glasses a day, cleanse your system kind of guy. That makes no sense physiologically. However, water is still better than DS. There is evidence that using a lot of artificial sweeteners plays tricks on your brain. Our brains sense sweetness and know that calories are coming. They adjust our food intake accordingly. When we use artificial sweeteners, the sweetness is sensed, but it is not followed by the expected calories (energy). Next time we eat something sweet- with sugar or not, our brains say, "a-ha, you're not going to fool me again. This means no-calories! So that piece of cake which normally would inhibit your appetite, no longer does so. In this way, diet sodas may lead to overeating!!

The best solution is to add a little juice to your water- just enough to flavor it without adding too many calories. I like adding tart cherry juice because a little juice adds a lot of flavor.

Hey all - I am new here , and excited to join the discussion!

I am weening myself off of high calorie drinks like regular soda (Mountain Dew to be precise...) and I hate drinking plain water - so boring. What are some delicious low calorie drinks I could switch to?

Thanks everyone!

Cory

I do not believe diet soda is a good choice and do not allow my daughter to have it because of the aspartame. Many would say the amount of aspertame is safe but I have serious doubts. I have known many people how drink enormous amounts of it in a week so what does that mean? Most of the people I know that drink diet soda seem to drink it by the gallon or gallons daily which tells me how addicting it is as well. Now I am a smoker so I know what addiction is and how hard it is to quit I refuse to fuel another habit like that. I will continue to have my regular coke once every 2 weeks or so thanks.

Thought this was interesting...
