Diabetes Books: “Knowledge is Power” (I learned something new in each book)—It is good to bring together all that has been said on a subject and compare the different opinions. As one book said: Managing this Disease is 95% up to the patient and 5% up to the doctor. These are some of the more helpful books I’ve read:
*Conquering Diabetes: Dr. Anne Peters, Endocrinologist, specializing in Diabetes, teaches doctors on diabetes treatment (2005)
*The First Year – Type 2 Diabetes: Gretchen Becker, 2001 (Patient/Expert)
Stop Diabetes: (50 simple steps you can take at any age to reduce your risk of Type 2 Diabetes), Gretchen Becker, 2002
Diabetes Solution: (get the 2003 revised and updated book) Richard Bernstein, M.D. (diabetic himself, has a diabetes medical practice)

The New Glucose Revolution: (get 2003 revision) Jennie Brand-Miller (glycemic index of foods)
Diabetes for Dummies:
1001 Tips for Living Well with Diabetes (American Diabetic Association)
The Complete Diabetes Prevention Plan, Christopher Saudek, M.D., Director, John Hopkins Diabetes Center; former President, American Diabetes Association. (2004)
American Diabetes Association: The Uncomplicated Guide to Diabetes Complications (2002).
American Diabetes Association: Diabetes: A practical guide to managing your health
(2004)
What to do when the Doctor says it’s Diabetes (2004) Dr. Melvin Stjernholm, Endocrinologist (received outstanding physician award in the area of diabetes by the Colorado Diabetes Institute)
You can go to the SL County Library site (have your library card number handy—I have mine taped to the computer, I use it so often) and bookmark the site. You can put books on hold and they will bring them from all of the 18 libraries to the library of your choice and have them waiting for you to pick up (free). They will notify you by phone or mail or e-mail or you can check their status online. It is a wonderful service. I use it constantly! You can renew them 3 times (3 weeks each time), if no one has a hold on one. I renew them over the computer.
