There are so many to choose from. I would recommend You Mean I Don't Have to Feel this Way? by Collette Dowling as a good primer.

by M. D. Frederic F. Flach

It covers symptoms, therapies, medications and types of depression. Just two of the new things I learned from it are (1) depression is a loss of perspective (2) there is a type of depression that includes paranoia
