My boyfriend of 2.5 years has recently been diagnosed with depression. I have a few questions about it...we had planned on getting married in Dec 07. Well he is not on the correct medicine (that gets fixed tomorrow)so he has completely pulled away from me. We use to cuddle and hold each other and talk on the phone or text message each other all the time. Now, i'm lucky to hear from him throughout the day. Is this common with depression? He was so loving and now he has pulled away from me. He won't talk about getting married, and after sex, it's like he just needs to be alone. I'm worried and scared. I just want to know if these are common symptoms of depression. Thanks in advance
Sounds like my wife of 27 years. She has not talked to me in weeks. She was hospitilized for depression and phycosis back in October and our relationship has gone down the tubes.
About the only interaction we have is sex. But it is passionless and love-less on her part. I certainly don't enjoy it this way. But I always hope that it will open other doors. So far, it has not.
We have been married for 23 years, my wife was diagnosed with depression about 6 years ago. Fortunately her overall daily symptoms have improved but we lack intimacy. We use to always hold hands, cuddle, socialize & share interests but now no longer do. The drugs she is taking are Ratio Fluvoxamine & San Mirtazapine which seems to have totally decreased all interests in sex. I quit asking, as it would only seem to happen out of quilt. I now just distract myself with other interests, maybe not the best thing as it causes me great loneliness. I too do not know what to do.
Wow, I was beginning to think my wife just hated me or something. I have been married 19 years and she has suffered from depression for the entire time. It has gotten progressivally worse. She will take her meds till she feels better and things get better in our relationship then she stops and things get worse then before. if someone could please tell me how to convince her to stay on her meds I would appreciate it. Her depression seems to be inherited from her mother. She also suffers from severe depression. My wifes has gotten so bad she just spent two days in bed and refused to get up or eat. She only got up to go back to work after the new year.
I am new to this board and so glad I have found it. My husband who is in his late 50's has both ADD and depression. We finally got him on some meds that seemed to work and he was such a joy to be around. This morning I noticed that he did not take the right dosage of one and questioned him on it. Don't think he appreciated it but I have to start holding him responsible for his meds because him not taking them correctly creates a unhappy life for me.
We do not have normal conversation like most couples. He does not talk much and when we do we seem to never be on the same page. His communication skills are just not there.
We have been together 17 yrs and I am not getting any younger (I am 61) and have thought about leaving him but am trying so hard to stay and deal with it "for better or worse". He still works but I am retired and have my own retirement money so don't need him for that so I am not staying because of the support.
I can certainly relate to all who have spouses with this condition. It is nice to have a place to go to and vent. Are there any other support forums out there especially for us "oldies"?
