My therapist metioned to me that Lexapro might be something I look into. I've taken Zoloft and Paxil before and while they help, I get tired of their side effects and stop taking them after I feel better for a while.

My depression seems to be triggered by my ADHD and often cycles with my period (yay). I've noticed that my anxiety heightens at this time as well. I wonder if anyone else has taken this medication and what they think of it.

thanks,
-barb

What were your side effects with Zoloft and Paxil? All these three drugs (Lexapro, Zoloft and Paxil) are SSRIs, so they share many properties.

Several Lexapro differences include:

  • it is the most selective SSRI
  • less sedation, weight gain than with Paxil
  • more rapid onset of effect than with other SSRIs
  • fewer problems with discontinuation than with Paxil
  • low rates of activating side effects

However, everyone is different, and finding the most suitable antidepressant is very individual. I have read many stories how people are happy with Lexapro, and at the same time how others experience unbearable side effects from it.

I have been on Zoloft in the past. I am now on Lexapro. I loved it at first, and I guess I still do. I have noticed, however, that my depression returns with my period. Maybe there's nothing out there for me.... Compared to Zoloft, I would venture to say that Lexapro is the better medication for me. Maybe it will be for you also. Good luck...

Paxil and Zoloft give me those lovely "sexual side effects" that they're so famous for - other than that, they seemed to work quite well.

Since nothing's working for my ADHD, I figure the depression will always be an issue and since that seems to be treatable, I'll run with that.

Thanks you guys, for your insight - I appreciate it!
