I've been diagnosed with Depression and have been taking Effexor (225mg) for about 1 year. It has helped significantly with my overal rage and irritablity. Recently (3 months) i've still been having a lot of problems. I'm always looking for some for of escapizm, mostly wanting to just sleep or watch TV/Movies and get away from everyone. I have two kids (3 & 1) and an amazing wife. I love them all very much but I just can't focus and sometimes I just want to be alone.

I've been doing some reading and think I might actually have Adult ADD. I have a ton of the symptoms and probably have had it my entire life. I'm going to go speak to my Dr. about it but I was curious if anyone out there is taking ADD meds along with anti-depressents? Is it dangerous? Does it help? Any adivce will be greatly appreciated.

I've tried various ADD medications along with my antidepressant. Most of them have exacerbated my anxiety symptoms. It might just be me, though. The one that has worked without apparent side effects is dexedrine. I only take it when I really need to concentrate.

Jkron,
My dr. thinks I have ADD as well. He has me on Wellbutrin and Dexedrine for depression and Lamictal for concentration. As I think back I guess I had symptoms all my life but never really thought much about it. I was raised out in the country a long way from school and friends most of the time.
My advise would be following the directions the dr. and pharmacy says. Take Vitamins (C, D are the ones I have to keep up with). Have your blood and thyroid checked. I understand that some of these are hard on your liver but I don't know how true/false that is. Dexedrine is a controlled drug here so I have to regularly go to the dr. every 6 weeks. But our dr. visits are covered by the gov't.
I have tried Celexa, Effexor to no avail. I really didn't like coming off Effexor. Brain shivers is an experience I don't really want to experience again. The Wellbutrin alone wasn't enough but I was at the max. so the dr. added the Dexedrine and it has helped. The Lamictal lets me breeze through the day -suddenly it's lunch, then it time to go home.

I don't particularly like going out either, being alone suits me fine. My husband is pretty good about that. I have a 9 yr old son and one of the things I still enjoy doing with him is reading books with him. He LOVES books. It is quiet and can really get lost inside a good book. I know your kids are too small for the chapter books but reading to them is one of the best things you can do for them. I will get off my soapbox now.

i have been diagnosed with ADD since an adult at he age of 40 that was over 5 years ago and have been taking ritalin the normal one. I have tried the others but ended up feeling depressed with them. I sought out some therapy as I needed extra help with my ADD and how to deal with it. during this I have realized that I have been depressed mildly for years and probably back to school time. I have just been to my family doctor and have been given cipralexa and so far it is being a help I will have to give it another few weeks to see how it goes but it seems to be fine with ritalin.
