While doing some research online about Drug Infusion Pumps for my father, I can across this site. While I knew my situation was no unique, I had no idea what kind of connections were out there! I am looking for insight anywhere I can find it, as this point. My father is 60 years old and has the back of an 80 year old, or so he's told my his doctors. Over the last 35 years, he has been hit twice by drunk drivers, had 9 spinal fusions, had one back surgery to implant a spinal cord stimulator, has had a total foot reconstruction, and a new knee. There are other issues, but these are the only ones I want to mention because they play into the back pain. While the first drunk driver that hit him caused problems when he was 25, it was the second drunk that really messed him up. He has permanent nerve damage that can never be reversed. He has had more S-Joint injections and nerve blocks than we can count. His current pain management is 175mg of durigesic pain patches, which he switches every two days, plus 800 mg of Ibuprofin, and 10 Oxy IR oral pills each day. At this point, I imagine many of you are wondering if he functions on a regular basis. The answer is yes. He is a CPA who owns his own business and continues to work. He has defied many doctors who told him to go on disability over the year, but continues to push forward. The spinal cord stimulator was a mistake that he can't use any longer because it aggravates him more that it helps him. I now work with him and it's taken quite a toll on me to see him in such pain every day. The last visit we had to the pain doctor for injections, it was mentioned that since his condition was never going to improve, the drug infusion pump was an option. From what I have researched, it does appear to be a pretty good option. There is a big part of me that just doesn't want to give up on searching for options, but I can't seem to find others that he hasn't tried. The injections aren't the final answer and neither is radiofrequency, unfortunately. Are there truly no other options out there? Are there any chronic pain trials I should look for online? He has done so much for our family as a father and he is so tired of living like this. He moves forward, but I feel that there just has to be more than one other option out there. I'm not sure if I'm just too hopeful, or I just haven't found it yet. I'll fly him anywhere at this point. No one should have to live like this for most of their lives. I am truly thankful he does not have a terminal disease, but living with chronic pain seems to be equally as bad sometimes. My apologies to all for going on and on. I've just never seen a place to let it all out before and I don't know anyone else in this situation so I don't know where to go for support. I truly appreciate any comments, suggestions, or just uplifting words! My hope is whomever you are, you are coping well and keep your heads up! Thank you

Hello
It's nice to meet you. I must apologize for missing your posts for the past couple of weeks.
I'm really sorry for your fathers pain, but he's very blessed to have you as his daughter.

I'm really glad you've found us and I hope I'm not too late, but if you want to talk about his options and see if we can come up with any, then just let me know.
If you need any help finding anything, please also let me know and I'll do my best to help you.
Have you seen the topic on pain pumps here? it's quiet extensive and has a great deal of really iformative info on it. If you've not stumbled upon it, just let me know and I'll post the link.

Take Care
It's a pleasure to meet you
