Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to say hi and let you know a little about myself. I am 40 years old and four years ago I was hit by a pickup truck that crushed both of my legs. I have had numerous surgeries and therapy to be able to walk again. I would like to make some new friends that understand what it is like to be in constant pain. I am also asking for some advice before I go to my doctor this Thursday. I have been taking Oxycontin 60mg three times a day, Neurontin 300mg three times a day, and Fentanyl 50mcg patch for two years now. I was at a higher dose of all, but titrated down. My pain is increasing now, and I would like to either go back up in dosages or change meds. I don't know which one would be best, and would like to know what other pain meds might help. My doctor always listens to me about what I think may help, so I'm not scared to ask him for something new, but I would like some information from people who are taking other pain meds. Thanks for your help.

Hi Cheryl,
Your doctor should know that you build up tolerances for opiate medications and since you have tried titrate down, just explain to your doc that your pain is getting worse. You might ask him to prescribe a breakthrough med for times that it gets really bad. there are some really good short acting breakthrough meds available, roxicodone for example is very good. It has the same active ingedient as oxycontin except it is not time released. But at least ask him about a breakthrough med (I would not mention the name of any medication because doctors dont like us doing their jobs for them), GOOD LUCK and I hope you find the relief that you are seeking Roll Eyes
